Job description

About Drug and Alcohol Services Australia (DASA)

For over 40 years, DASA has walked alongside people across Central Australia as they overcome alcohol and drug-related challenges – building healthy, safe, and supported communities free from the harmful effects of substance use.

Our programs span the Sobering Up Shelter, Aboriginal and Methamphetamine Outreach Teams, Prison In-Reach, the Aranda House Therapeutic Community, Transitional After Care, Angie’s Place, our Alternative to Custody programs, and Restorative Day Programs – all guided by Integrity, Diversity, Compassion, Community, Collaboration, and Innovation.

Therapeutic Community Model

Aranda House is a registered Therapeutic Community (TC) – a structured, participative environment where residents take an active role in their own recovery. Think collaborative, peer-supported healing through group therapy, community meetings, and shared responsibility, rather than one-on-one counselling alone.

If you’re new to the TC model, know this: it’s hands‑on. You’ll be engaging in community‑driven recovery activities alongside residents, not just supporting from the sidelines.

About the Opportunity

We’re looking for two dedicated Case Managers to join our close-knit team at Aranda House. You’ll show up for residents day after day – guiding them through recovery, building genuine relationships, and helping them build the life skills and relapse prevention plans they need to thrive independently.

In this role, you will:

  • Guide residents through their daily program, from morning handover to evening wind-down
  • Design and deliver individual treatment and relapse prevention plans
  • Manage resident intake, induction, and ongoing case reviews
  • Facilitate group therapy, community meetings, and cultural programs
  • Keep case notes sharp and support residents with practical next steps like housing and job applications
  • Work closely with the Service Manager, the Meth Outreach Team and DASA’s Aboriginal Outreach Team
  • Join the on‑call roster (roughly one week every two months) – with paid call‑outs

You’ll be set up to succeed from day one, shadowing experienced case managers and receiving cultural training within your first three months.

About You

You’re resilient, empathetic, and culturally aware – someone who thrives on hands‑on, people‑first work and shows up with a steady, supportive presence, even on the tough days. We value real‑world case management experience, so don’t let a missing qualification hold you back from applying.

Essential Criteria:

  • Case management experience, including direct client support and multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Solid grasp of AOD recovery principles, harm minimisation, and client‑centred practice
  • Motivational Interviewing skills and confidence facilitating group therapy and community meetings
  • Absolute discretion, with the ability to build trust while holding clear professional boundaries
  • Reliability and resilience working with vulnerable clients in a close residential team setting
  • Sharp communication, organisational, and case‑note writing skills
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Comfortable working within a smoke‑free therapeutic community
  • Willingness to join the on‑call roster, including occasional after‑hours support
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence and First Aid Certificate
  • Eligible for a National Police Clearance and a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) NT

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services (AOD) or similar
  • Familiarity with AOD/risk screening tools, DASA’s programs, or the Mimaso client database
