Aplus Granny Flats is seeking an experienced Carpenter to join our full-time team in the Newcastle region. You will translate design specifications into high-quality finished products that meet our exacting standards for granny flats and modular housing, ensuring craftsmanship and on-time delivery.

This hands-on role requires reading blueprints, measuring and cutting timber with hand and power tools, installing walls, flooring, roofing and fixtures, and collaborating with supervisors and project

Qualifications

• Recognised carpentry qualification or equivalent trade.
• 3–5 years of practical carpentry experience in residential construction or module manufacturing.
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools and ability to read drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Construct, assemble and install structural and finishing components for granny flat modules and housing units.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications to ensure accuracy.
• Measure, cut and shape timber and other materials using hand and power tools.
• Install walls, flooring, roofing, doors, windows and fixtures per design.
• Perform finishing work including sanding, staining and painting to high quality standards.
• Ensure work complies with building codes, safety standards and quality benchmarks.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Carpenter to join our full-time team at Apus Granny Flats . As a Carpenter, you will play a crucial role in the construction and assembly of our granny flat modules and housing solutions. This is a hands–on position where you will be responsible for translating design specifications into high-quality finished products that meet our exacting standards. Your expertise will be integral to maintaining our reputation for superior craftsmanship and ensuring projects are completed on time and within specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Construct, assemble and install structural and finishing components for granny flat modules and housing units
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications to ensure accuracy in all carpentry work
• Measure, cut and shape timber and other materials using hand tools and power tools to precise specifications
• Install walls, flooring, roofing, doors, windows and other structural elements according to design requirements
• Perform finishing work including sanding, staining and painting to achieve the desired aesthetic and durability standards
• Ensure all work complies with relevant building codes, safety standards and quality benchmarks
• Collaborate with other team members, supervisors and project managers to coordinate work schedules and resolve any issues
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment, adhering to all health and safety protocols
• Inspect completed work and make necessary adjustments to ensure consistency and quality
• Contribute ideas and suggestions for process improvements and innovative solutions

What we’re looking for

• Recognised carpentry qualification or equivalent trade qualification (Certificate III or IV in Carpentry or similar)
• Minimum 3–5 years of practical carpentry experience in residential construction or module manufacturing
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including saws, sanders, drills and pneumatic tools
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications accurately
• Sound knowledge of timber selection, joinery techniques and finishing methods
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to achieving high-quality workmanship
• Understanding of and commitment to health and safety regulations in the construction industry
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
• Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour, including working at heights and in confined spaces
• Reliability and punctuality with a strong work ethic
• Experience with modular or prefabricated housing construction is highly desirable
• Experience in granny flat or secondary dwelling construction would be advantageous
