Job summary

PCYC NSW seeks an enthusiastic Youth Worker in Grafton to support disengaged youth through the 10-week Fit for Work program and related activities. You will facilitate group sessions, help students re-engage with school life, and work with Well-Being Teams to address their needs.

You’ll operate in a 1:5 mentoring ratio, with up to 10 students per class, and participate in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• WWCC and National Police check required (issued within last 6 months).
• Qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Education, Community Development or related discipline.
• Experience with young people in social work, education, mediation or conflict resolution.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with young people in group activities.
• Experience with youth facing behavioural issues, mental health challenges, homelessness or family conflict.

Responsibilities

• Provide group facilitation within a classroom-style environment addressing social issues and practical strategies.
• Support students to re-engage with school life and identify educational goals.
• Take a holistic approach with Well-Being Teams to address current needs.
• Ensure mandatory reporting in line with legislative requirements.
• Deliver individual and/or group sessions on resilience, relationships, and emotional regulation.
• Support engagement of students from diverse backgrounds with local PCYC services.
• Coordinate with schools to ensure safety and program delivery.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic qualified Youth Mentors to join our PCYC Youth Programs Team. Position: Youth Worker

Location: Grafton, working with Juvenile Detention Centre and Schools

Hours of Work: 4 Days per week, 8am – 4pm, must also be available to work early morning and late evenings.

$37.36 per hour

Fit for Work

Join us in delivering our impactful 10-week program, Fit for Work! This program aims to reconnect disengaged young people with valuable employment opportunities. As a Youth Worker, you will facilitate group sessions focusing on employability and life skills, helping participants develop the confidence and capabilities needed to thrive in the workplace.

About the role

Working alongside a co-mentor with a maximum class size of 10 students (Ratio of 1:5), you will be responsible for providing support services to youth who are showing early signs of disengagement from learning. In this varied and flexible role, classified as Youth Worker under our Enterprise Agreement, working with these students you will:

• Provide group facilitation within a classroom-style environment addressing social issues, implementing practical information and strategies to assist students to thrive to become positive citizens within their communities.
• Provide support to help students remain focused on re-engagement into school life Identify and support young people’s educational needs and goals
• Use a holistic approach to highlight the current needs and supports to students, in collaboration with Well- Being Teams in Schools.
• Identify and support young people’s educational needs and goals Ensure mandatory reporting in-line with legislative requirements
• Deliver individual and/or group sessions within a defined structure in resilience building, relationships, and emotional regulation skills.
• Support the engagement of students from various backgrounds and assist with connections within a school environment and local PCYC services.
• Ensure mandatory reporting in-line with legislative and DOE requirements.

About You

Are you a passionate person, as well as:

• Do you have prior experience working with young people within a social work, educational, mediation, or conflict resolution capacity?
• Do you have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Criminal History check? (Issued within the last 6 months)
• Do you have Qualification/s in Youth Work, Social Work, Education, Community Development or a related discipline?
• Do you have excellent communication skills and proven ability to engage with young people with group activities.
• Do you have prior experience working with young people with behavioural issues, who are experiencing poor mental health, homelessness, drug and alcohol dependency or family conflict?
