Job summary

The Freedom Hub is a social enterprise in Sydney dedicated to ending modern slavery, operating a café, events, catering and retail to fund its mission. We seek part-time on-site Cafe & Event Staff based in Waterloo, Sydney, NSW, to support daily café operations and events while upholding food safety standards and survivor-centered values.

Qualifications

• Food safety and preparation skills with emphasis on hygiene and quality.
• Experience in food service in cafe, hospitality or catering.
• Strong customer service, friendly and respectful interaction.
• Ability to work during events, including setup, service and pack-down.
• Certifications such as a Food Safety Supervisor certificate and/or RSA preferred or willing to obtain.
• Reliability, punctuality and ability to work weekends and evenings.

Role Description

The Cafe & Event Staff positions are part-time, on-site position based in Waterloo Sydney, NSW. The team members will support daily café operations, including preparing and serving food and beverages, maintaining a clean and safe workspace, and providing welcoming, attentive customer service. Responsibilities include setting up and packing down events, assisting with catering orders, supporting point-of-sale transactions, and coordinating with the team to deliver smooth service during busy periods. The role also involves upholding food safety standards, restocking supplies, and representing The Freedom Hub’s mission and values in all interactions with guests, partners, and survivors who participate in programs held on-site.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills in Food Preparation and Food Safety, with a commitment to hygiene and quality standards.
• Experience in Food Service and Food & Beverage operations within a café, hospitality, or catering environment.
• Strong Customer Service skills, with the ability to engage warmly and respectfully with diverse communities.
• Ability to work effectively during events, including setup, service, and pack-down, and to support catering operations.
• Relevant certifications such as a Food Safety Supervisor certificate and/or Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) (or willingness to obtain).
• Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional evenings.
• Team-oriented mindset, clear communication skills, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment.
