Job summary

Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-Operative Geelong VIC is seeking a Part-time Café Cook to prepare and cook the café menu to a consistently high standard and support catering growth for corporate functions, private events and community gatherings, both on site and off site.

The role suits a trade-qualified cook with an interest in fresh, seasonal produce, strong organisation, and the poise to work accurately through busy service. Head Chef oversees menu design and purchasing.

Qualifications

• AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher or equivalent.
• Experience cooking in a cafe or restaurant, including breakfast/brunch/lunch.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and HACCP-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook the café menu to a high standard under the Head Chef.
• Cover daily breakfast, brunch and lunch service and assist catering events.
• Support off-site catering functions and events when required.

Part- time Position

The Role

The Café Cook prepares and cooks the café menu to a consistently high standard and supports the growth of the catering side of the business. Working to the direction of the Head Chef, the position covers daily breakfast, brunch and lunch service as well as food production for corporate functions, private events and community gatherings, both on site and off site.

The position suits a trade-qualified cook with a genuine interest in fresh, seasonal produce, sound organisational habits and the composure to work accurately through a busy service. It is a hands-on cooking role: the Head Chef retains responsibility for menu design, costing, purchasing and the supervision of kitchen staff.

About You

• AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher, completion of a cookery apprenticeship, or a trade test or skills assessment recognised as equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience cooking in a café, restaurant or comparable kitchen, including breakfast, brunch and lunch service.
• Experience preparing food for catering functions or events, including bulk production.
• Strong working knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP-based systems.
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure during peak service.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Availability to work a rostered spread of hours, including weekends and occasional evenings for catering events.
• Current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one before commencement
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or Patisserie.
• Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
• Experience with catering logistics, event preparation and off-site service.
• Knowledge of Australian native ingredients and their use in contemporary menus.
• Previous experience working with or within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
• *A police check, Working with Children Check, Vaccination Certificate and current Driver Licence are required for all positions.
