Job summary

Junction Support Services in Albury invites applications for a Cafe Assistant at Retro Lane Cafe within a social enterprise. You will help serve customers, craft high-quality coffee and drinks, assist with food service and keep the cafe running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a cafe, restaurant, or fast-paced hospitality setting.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to build rapport with customers.
• Barista experience and/or formal barista training.
• Food Safety knowledge and responsibilities around safe food handling.
• Reliability, punctuality and ability to work varied shifts.
• Willingness to complete required background checks.
• Certificate II or III in Hospitality is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers with a friendly smile and provide great service.
• Take orders and help customers with questions.
• Make coffees, teas and other hot and cold drinks.
• Prepare, heat and serve food.
• Keep the cafe, kitchen and dining areas clean and tidy.
• Use the POS system and handle customer payments.

• Ensure food is stored and handled safely.

About the Role

As a Cafe Assistant with Close Collective @ Retro Lane Cafe, you’ll work in a social enterprise cafe where the profits go back into supporting young people. You’ll be part of a friendly team, serve our customers, learn new skills and help create opportunities for young people in our community.

In this hands on role, you’ll support the day to day running of the cafe and help create a welcoming experience for every customer. From serving customers and making great coffee and drinks to preparing food and keeping the cafe running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll contribute to creating a cafe that people love to visit and enjoy working in.

We have multiple casual opportunities, all based at our Retro Lane Cafe in central Albury. The position is covered by the Restaurant Industry Award 2020, Food & Beverage Level 1-3, depending on your skills and experience.

What You Can Expect

In the role, you will:

About You

You’ll bring:

• Demonstrated experience working in a cafe, restaurant, or similar fast-paced hospitality setting, with the ability to perform a variety of duties.
• Strong commitment to delivering friendly, professional customer service, with the ability to build rapport and handle customer enquiries or concerns positively.
• Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and public holidays, and a demonstrated record of punctuality and reliability.
• Before starting, an NSW Working with Children Check, and an Australian Police Check will be required (a part of the onboarding process).
• Barista experience and/or formal barista training.
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Certificate II or III in Hospitality.
