Job summary

Parkes Shire Council is seeking a Cadet Engineer who will study Civil Engineering while gaining hands-on experience. You will assist with design, estimating, contract admin and project delivery across roads and civil assets, developing practical skills in a supportive team.

Requirements include HSC and eligibility for a university engineering degree, plus strong communication, task management and teamwork. A NSW driver licence and White Card are valued assets.

• Completion of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and eligibility for entry into university to undertake an engineering degree via not a recognised distance education.
• Interest in local government infrastructure and project delivery.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholders.
• Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
• Team-oriented approach.

About the Opportunity

Parkes Shire Council is seeking a motivated Cadet Engineerto join our team while completing a Civil Engineering degree. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience across both Operations and Technical Services, supporting the delivery of key infrastructure projects within our community.In this role, you will assist with estimating, contract administration and project delivery in line with Council’s works program, while developing practical engineering skills in a supportive environment.In this role your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Completion of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and eligibility for entry iuniversity to undertake an engineering degree via nto a recognised distance education.
• Strong interest in local government infrastructure and project delivery
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines
• A proactive and team-oriented approach
• Current and maintained NSW Drivers Licence
• SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card)

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

• Currently undertaking tertiary studies in engineering, surveying or similar.
• Experience in the use of GIS and/or AutoCAD software.
• Knowledge of the role, functions and responsibilities of Local Government.

The appointment will be in accordance with theLocal Government (State) Awardand Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.The position is classified within the Traineeship salary band (T4 - T8), commencing at$860.00 to $1,169.00 per week, with the starting salary determined based on relevant study, including units completed towards an engineering degree, skills and experience. Candidates with relevant university study may be eligible to commence at a higher point within the band.
