Job description

You've built the relationships. You've earned the reputation. Now, what do you want to do with it?

For the right person, this could be an opportunity to have a far greater impact than simply winning the next project.

Our client is an established and highly regarded Sydney commercial construction business with a strong reputation for quality, trusted client relationships and delivering outstanding outcomes.

They have built an exceptional foundation.

Now they're ready for the next stage.

With an ambitious leadership team, a highly regarded culture and a clear appetite for continued growth, the business is looking for an accomplished industry professional who can help strengthen its position in the market and influence where it goes next.

This isn't about bringing someone in to simply "do BD".

It's about bringing someone into the business whose relationships, judgement, market knowledge and credibility can genuinely make a difference.

Someone who understands the Sydney construction market.

Someone who knows how to turn conversations into relationships, relationships into opportunities and opportunities into long-term partnerships.

And importantly, someone who wants the opportunity to help build something rather than simply inherit it.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director - New Business and working closely with the broader leadership team, you'll take a leading role in the growth, relationships and market positioning of the business.

You'll have the autonomy to develop relationships in your own way, the support of an experienced leadership team and genuine influence over the markets, clients and opportunities the business pursues.

This is a role for someone who understands that the best business development often happens long before a tender lands.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and executing a targeted growth and client partnership strategy.
  • Building and strengthening relationships with developers, clients, consultants, architects and key industry decision-makers.
  • Identifying opportunities early and positioning the business strategically ahead of the market.
  • Developing new client relationships while strengthening an already established network of repeat clients and partners.
  • Working closely with pre-construction and delivery teams to convert the right opportunities into successful projects.
  • Representing the business across industry events, client engagements and strategic networking opportunities.
  • Bringing meaningful market intelligence, competitor insight and commercial thinking into the leadership team.
  • Helping shape the long-term market positioning and continued growth of the business.
About You

You've built your career by earning trust, maintaining relationships and understanding what genuinely matters to clients.

You know the difference between being well connected and being genuinely respected.

You'll bring:
  • A strong track record in Business Development, Client Partnerships, Growth or a similar senior position within Sydney's commercial construction market.
  • An established and relevant network of clients, consultants, developers and industry stakeholders.
  • Genuine credibility within the market and a reputation for building lasting professional relationships.
  • The ability to identify opportunities well before they formally come to market.
  • Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of what makes an opportunity right for the business.
  • The confidence to engage with senior decision-makers and represent the business at the highest level.
  • A strategic mindset combined with the willingness to remain personally connected to clients and the market.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach and the ability to work closely with pre-construction, delivery and leadership teams.

Above all, you'll understand that great Business Development isn't about being the loudest person in the room.

It's about being the person people trust enough to call.

What's in it for you
  • A highly attractive executive remuneration package with a lucrative performance-based incentive structure.
  • A genuine leadership position where your ideas, relationships and market knowledge will carry real weight.
  • The autonomy to build and execute a growth strategy rather than inherit someone else's formula.
  • The opportunity to work closely with an ambitious, accessible and commercially minded leadership team.
  • An established platform, excellent reputation and strong delivery capability behind you when you go to market.
  • A collaborative culture with exceptional employee retention and people who genuinely enjoy working together.
  • The opportunity to help take an already successful business into its next stage of growth.
  • Long-term career potential and the chance to create a legacy within the organisation.

You may not be looking for another Business Development role.

That's exactly the point.

This opportunity is aimed at someone who has already built a successful career and is beginning to think about what they want the next chapter to look like.

More influence. More autonomy. A closer connection to leadership. And the opportunity to see the direct impact of the relationships and reputation you've spent years building.

If you're successful where you are, we're not expecting you to simply walk away from it.

But we do think this opportunity is worth a confidential conversation.
