Sharp & Carter is seeking a commercially astute Business Development Manager to lead major project opportunities across Australia’s infrastructure and civil construction markets. You will engage Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, project owners, and procurement stakeholders to identify, develop and convert large-scale opportunities while building long-term relationships.

You will drive growth strategies, expand market share and maintain a strong pipeline of tenders and contracts.

Qualifications

  • Grow existing accounts and increase share of spend.
  • Monitor market activity and industry trends to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Represent the business at meetings, sites, and industry events.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a commercially astute and strategically minded Business Development Manager to join a market-leading provider of capital equipment hire, lifting solutions, heavy transport, and infrastructure services.

This is a high-impact growth role focused on securing major project opportunities across Australia's infrastructure and civil construction markets. Working closely with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, project owners, engineering consultancies, and procurement stakeholders, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and converting large-scale project opportunities while building long-term strategic relationships across the project lifecycle.

Duties
  • Identify, develop and convert major project opportunities across infrastructure, civil construction, transport, utilities and industrial markets.
  • Build strategic relationships with Tier 1 contractors, project owners, engineering consultancies, procurement leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies that expand market share and generate sustainable revenue across target sectors.
  • Maintain a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, tenders and long-term opportunities, ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.
  • Lead customer engagement activities from early project identification through to tender submission, negotiation and contract award.
  • Collaborate with operational, engineering and commercial teams to develop competitive and commercially sound solutions.
  • Grow existing accounts by identifying opportunities to increase service penetration and share of spend.
  • Monitor market activity, competitor movements and industry trends to identify emerging opportunities and risks.
  • Represent the business at customer meetings, project sites, industry events and networking functions.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven success in senior business development, strategic sales or major account management within infrastructure, civil construction, equipment hire, engineering or industrial services.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and converting large-scale project opportunities and complex commercial engagements.
  • Strong network and relationships across Tier 1 contractors, project owners, engineering consultancies and associated infrastructure stakeholders.
  • Commercially astute, with experience in tender management, contract negotiation, pricing and solution development.
  • Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across operational, commercial and executive environments.
  • Strong strategic planning, pipeline management and forecasting capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Engineering or a related discipline are advantageous.
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel as required.
