Queensland Government in Rockhampton, Australia seeks a Bushfire Mitigation Officer (RFOO2) to lead bushfire risk reduction across the District. The role supports planning, evaluation, and collaboration with volunteers, brigades and external agencies to strengthen fire management across rural communities.

The position involves coordinating risk assessments, developing mitigation strategies, managing fire wardens and permits, and leading community education initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Support the Manager Bushfire Mitigation in developing plans and strategies to reduce bushfire risk across the District.
• Undertake the role of Fire Warden for an Area or District where vacancies exist and training is completed.
• Assist in managing the Fire Warden network and Permit to Light Fire system; advise landowners on vegetation legislation and permit breaches.
• Assist with fire investigations and issuing enforcement notices for unplanned burns; identify non-compliance patterns.
• Manage data collection on environmental conditions and mitigation activities for risk analysis; lead fuel hazard assessments.
• Support brigades and partners in hazard reduction burning, burn plans, and community consultation.
• Assist brigades to develop bushfire mitigation capabilities and training for prescribed burning techniques.
• Coordinate community education in bushfire prevention and coordination of Volunteer Community Educator Network.
• Coordinate Locality Specific and Area Fire Management Group meetings, including planning and logistics.
