Job summary

Queensland Fire Department in Rockhampton is seeking a Bushfire Mitigation Officer to drive bushfire mitigation planning, implementation and evaluation across the District. You will enable use of fire in the landscape, support fire management groups, volunteers, Fire Wardens and brigades, and coordinate community education and engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience working with volunteers or within volunteer organisations is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of rural fire services concepts and management.
• Ability to operate in a team environment and support disaster operations.

Responsibilities

• Support development of plans and strategies to reduce bushfire risk across the District.
• Undertake Fire Warden duties where required and trained.
• Assist in managing Fire Warden network and Permit to Light Fire system.
• Conduct fire investigations and assist with enforcement notices for unplanned burns.
• Collect environmental data and support fuel hazard assessments.
• Assist with planning and execution of hazard reduction burning and community consultation.
• Support training to enhance prescribed burning techniques.
• Coordinate community education and Volunteer Community Educator Network.
• Lead Locality Specific and Area Fire Management Group meetings.
