Job summary

Queensland Fire Department in Rockhampton is seeking a Bushfire Mitigation Officer (RFOO2) to lead district bushfire risk reduction efforts, develop plans, undertake risk assessments and coordinate fire management activities with brigades and volunteers.

Reporting to the Manager Bushfire Mitigation, you will support a Fire Warden network, manage permits to light, and contribute to community education and engagement across the district, including collaborations with external agencies.

Qualifications

• Must meet the mandatory requirements and attributes outlined in the generic RFSQ Rural Fire Operational Officer Two (RFOO2) role description.
• Knowledge of or experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation is desirable.
• Ability to coordinate partners and brigades in bushfire mitigation activities.

Responsibilities

• Support the Manager Bushfire Mitigation in developing plans and strategies to reduce bushfire risk across the District.
• Undertake the role of Fire Warden for an Area or District (where vacancies exist and appropriately trained).
• Support the Manager Bushfire Mitigation to manage the Fire Warden network and Permit to Light Fire system across the District.
• Assist the Manager Bushfire Regulatory Compliance with fire investigations and enforcement notices for unplanned burns; identify patterns of non-compliance.
• Manage data collection on environmental conditions and mitigation activities to support risk analysis.
• Support brigades and partners in hazard reduction burning planning and execution.
• Assist brigades and partners to develop bushfire mitigation capabilities and understanding of fire in the landscape.
• Coordinate Locality Specific and Area Fire Management Group meetings with relevant committees.
