Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Project / Design Leader in Building Engineering in Australia, Sydney area, offering hybrid work options. You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, structural and hydraulic disciplines, guiding design and project management from conception to delivery on major building projects.

The role emphasizes client engagement, scope definition, design reviews and managing interfaces, with Chartered engineers and senior leadership experience highly valued.

Qualifications

• Ideally, 12+ years’ experience in Building Engineering.
• Engineering qualification, Chartered status highly regarded.
• Commercial and Contract Management experience.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex projects.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience across Defence, Healthcare, Aviation, Commercial, Data Centres, Sports or other complex infrastructure would be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex, multidisciplinary projects, coordinating Building Engineering disciplines and wider project teams to deliver design solutions from project inception through to delivery.
• Work with clients to understand needs, interpret requirements to allow engineers to develop solutions, document design assumptions and risks.
• Take ownership of design management, including defining scope, coordinating technical inputs, managing interfaces and leading design reviews to ensure the design meets client requirements, programme and project objectives.
• Manage project delivery across programme, financial performance, resourcing, financial governance, identifying and managing scope changes, risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, providing practical advice, managing expectations and working with Project Directors, Technical Directors, Design Managers and discipline leads to resolve project and technical challenges.
• Contribute to the growth of the Building Engineering business through client engagement, proposals and work-winning activities, bringing your technical and project experience to help develop new opportunities.
