Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a Building Enclosure Consultant to lead design, detailing and analysis on high‑performance building projects. You will advise clients on performance, constructability and durability, conduct field reviews, and prepare assessment reports for existing structures while ensuring code compliance and timely delivery.

The role requires 5–10 years in enclosure consulting, a professional license, and strong CAD skills.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years experience in building enclosure consulting and project management.
• Licensed Architect or Licensed Engineer in relevant states is desirable.
• Experience with client relations, preparation of construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.
• Experience with quality assurance reviews of drawings and specs.
• Familiar with exterior curtain wall systems, roofing, waterproofing and related assemblies.
• Knowledge of local building codes and remediation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Undertake building enclosure design, detailing and analysis, and participate in testing, fabrication and construction administration.
• Advise on building enclosure performance, constructability and durability for clients.
• Conduct/oversee field reviews and progress inspections on designated projects.
• Prepare assessment reports for existing structures including root-cause analysis and repair recommendations.
• Document and maintain well written reports from proposal through completion.
• Ensure familiarity with local building codes.
• Communicate with clients and project teams on status and estimates.
• Produce hand sketches and 2D/3D CAD details as required.
• Provide cross‑functional support to meet client needs and timelines.
• Mentor staff and manage project resources.

Job Description

• Undertake building enclosure design, detailing and analysis, and participate in testing, fabrication and construction administration.
• Advise architects, owners, contractors, developers and property managers (clients) on building enclosure performance, constructability, and durability.
• Conduct/oversee field review and progress inspection on designated projects.
• Conduct/oversee assessment reports for existing structures which may include some root cause analysis and repair recommendations.
• Document and maintain well written reports on project related activity, including existing conditions, in construction progression of work from initial proposal though completion.
• Ensure familiarity with building codes in local markets.
• Advise management on related project performance\key issues, status, scheduling, effort of work and estimates for completion.
• Communicate effectively and establish relationships with clients and job-related management teams
• Produce details via hand sketching and using 2D and 3D CAD packages as required.
• Provide cross-functional support to ensure client needs and internal timelines/project activities are completed.
• Break down technical needs\deliverable; assist in managing budgetary project requirements.
• Provide manpower updates and resource availability
• Occasional presentation of white paper\case studies to technical teams
• Manage staff or team and foster training\mentoring
• Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years experience in building enclosure consulting and project management
• Registered Architect/Licensed Engineer in the States of WA, CA, CO, AZ, HI, TX, OR, ID, MT, UT desired.
• Experience with client relations, preparation of construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.
• Experience with quality assurance reviews with construction drawings and specifications.
• Experience with detailed-level reviews of Division 07 and 08 submittal and shop drawings.
• Familiar with exterior curtain wall, window wall, glass, masonry, concrete, air-barrier, coating, sealant, and metal panel systems.
• Familiar with roofing and below-grade waterproofing systems.
• Familiar with existing building code and code requirements for remediation within the built environment.
