Job summary

Humans of Agriculture and Pavilion Farms jointly search for a hands-on Farm Manager in Victoria to lead a team on a 400,000-bird operation. You’ll work on the sheds, optimise climate control, monitor welfare, and use data to improve growth, liveability and cost efficiency.

You will partner with the AgTech Innovation Lead, learn their AI-driven bird monitoring tools, and drive performance with practical, ownership‑driven leadership. Weekend rosters and flexibility are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Bird performance and welfare—monitor health, feed and water intake, shed conditions and litter daily to meet welfare standards.
• Shed environment and infrastructure—operate and optimise shed controllers, heating, ventilation and cooling, and maintain infrastructure.
• Biosecurity and compliance—maintain strict biosecurity and audit readiness per requirements.
• Batch turnarounds—plan and coordinate pickups, wash-downs and shed setup to finish on schedule.
• Transport and logistics—coordinate farm transport, chick placements, feed deliveries and site access.
• People and teamwork—lead, roster and develop farm hands and support neighbouring farms.
• Reporting and administration—maintain daily and batch records and track labour hours and costs.
• You’ll also have responsibility for farm logistics, including chick placements, pickups, feed deliveries and coordinating people and vehicles across the operation.

Pavilion Farms is a family-owned broiler growing business with almost 50 years of history. The operation has grown significantly since it was established in 1975 and now operates around 12 farms across Anakie and Carisbrook, placing approximately 25 million birds each year.

They operate modern ventilation, evaporative cooling and hydronic heating systems, as well as biogas and fertiliser infrastructure that supports sustainability across their farms.

The Opportunity

You’ll take responsibility for a farm with 400,000 birds, and provide leadership for a small team of farm hands, with the support of the wider Pavilion operation.

A big part of the role will be understanding the relationship between the things you can control and the results you achieve. You’ll be on the farm, in the sheds and close to the birds. You’ll work with the AgTech Innovation Lead to learn how to utilise their technology to support your work and get the best results.

This is a hands‑on Farm Manager role for someone who wants to own the performance of their farm, rather than simply oversee it.

Key Responsibilities:

• Bird performance and welfare — Monitor bird health, behaviour, feed and water intake, shed conditions and litter quality daily to achieve strong FCR, liveability, growth and grading outcomes while meeting all RSPCA and processor welfare standards.
• Shed environment and infrastructure — Operate and optimise shed controllers, heating, ventilation and cooling systems while maintaining infrastructure, backup systems and general farm maintenance to a high standard.
• Biosecurity and compliance — Maintain strict biosecurity, disease monitoring and farm entry protocols while ensuring the farm is consistently audit‑ready and compliant with RSPCA, processor and internal requirements.
• Batch turnarounds — Plan and coordinate bird pickups, cleanout, wash‑down, disinfection and shed setup to ensure each batch turnaround is completed safely and on schedule.
• Transport and logistics — Coordinate farm transport, chick placements, feed and supply deliveries, vehicle scheduling and site access to keep movements running smoothly and in line with biosecurity requirements.
• People and teamwork — Lead, roster and develop farm hands while supporting neighbouring farms, sharing resources and taking ownership of challenges with a solutions‑focused approach.
• Reporting and administration — Maintain accurate daily and batch records while managing labour hours and costs within budget.
• You’ll also have responsibility for farm logistics, including chick placements, pickups, feed deliveries and coordinating people and vehicles across the operation.

We’re looking for someone who is practical, switched‑on and takes ownership.

You might already be a Farm Manager, or you could be an experienced broiler Farm Hand or 2IC who is ready for the next step.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Experience in broiler production or another intensive livestock environment
• A strong mechanical mindset — you’re comfortable figuring out why something isn’t working and doing what you can to fix it
• An ability to use production data to make decisions, rather than relying solely on instinct
• Experience leading a small team, or the potential to step into that responsibility
• A genuine focus on animal welfare and doing things properly by RSPCA standards.
• The flexibility required to work around livestock, including rostered weekends and responding to alarms when required
• Most importantly, you’ll be someone who sees something that needs doing and gets onto it.
