Job summary

Development Objective Pty Ltd is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Technician / Soil Tester for the Greater Brisbane Area. The role involves hands-on field and laboratory soil testing to support geotechnical investigations for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

You will collect soil samples, perform tests (compaction, density, moisture), record results, and prepare reports for engineers. This role requires equipment maintenance, adherence to AS standards and OH&S, and

Qualifications

• Experience in geotechnical or construction materials testing, including field sampling and laboratory soil testing methods.
• Knowledge of relevant testing standards and procedures (e.g., AS standards) and ability to follow detailed technical instructions.
• Strong attention to detail, data recording, and basic report writing skills to document and communicate test results accurately.
• Ability to work safely on active construction and development sites, including manual handling, equipment setup, and adherence to OH&S requirements.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, and other technical staff.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various sites within the Greater Brisbane Area.
• Certificate or diploma in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, construction materials testing, or a related field is advantageous.
• Previous experience with subdivision or residential building projects, and familiarity with light gauge steel construction, is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out field and laboratory testing to support geotechnical investigations.
• Collecting soil samples and performing tests such as compaction, density, and moisture content.
• Recording and interpreting results and preparing detailed reports for the engineering team.
• Maintaining testing equipment and ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and OH&S.
• Collaborating with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to deliver projects on schedule.
• Assisting with site inspections and surveying activities as needed.
