Design & Build Recruitment, based in Newcastle, is seeking an Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of the finance function within a growing residential construction business. You will manage day-to-day accounts, payroll, and financial reporting in a standalone role.

The role requires construction accounting experience with strong knowledge of end-to-end processes and MYOB expertise. It offers a long-term, full-time opportunity with potential flexibility after an initial six-month

Formación

• Experience as Accountant, Senior Bookkeeper or similar.
• Experience in residential construction preferred.
• Strong end-to-end accounting knowledge (AP, AR, payroll, reporting).
• MYOB experience is essential.
• Able to work autonomously with strong attention to detail.

Responsabilidades

• Process payroll, including superannuation and associated compliance requirements.
• Complete bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance and month-end reporting.
• Prepare and assist with year-end financials and reporting requirements.
• Manage BAS, GST and other statutory accounting obligations.
• Assist with Home Building Compensation Fund (HBCF) insurance requirements and annual renewals.
• Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate financial records.
• Liaise with management, external accountants and other stakeholders.
• Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring processes run efficiently.

About the Opportunity

Design & Build Recruitment is partnering with an established residential construction business seeking an experienced Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper to join their team based in Newcastle.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the finance function and is looking for a varied, hands-on position within the construction industry.

Working in a standalone capacity, you'll be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounts while also overseeing financial reporting, year-end processes and construction-specific compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting and be confident managing both transactional and higher-level accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end accounts payable and receivable functions.
• Process payroll, including superannuation and associated compliance requirements.

About You

• Previous experience in an Accountant, Senior Bookkeeper or similar position.
• Experience within the construction industry is highly desirable, ideally residential construction.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end accounting, including AP, AR, payroll and financial reporting.
• Experience with MYOB is essential.
• Confident managing month-end and year-end accounting processes.
• Exposure to HBCF insurance requirements would be highly regarded.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• A stable employment history and a genuine interest in securing a long-term opportunity.
