Job summary

Ventura Bus Lines is seeking a Bodyshop Controller to support the Regional Workshop Manager in delivering high workmanship, customer service and operational efficiency. You will oversee day-to-day bodyshop activities, ensuring trades, apprentices and assistants are supported, productive and safe.

Your leadership will help minimise vehicle downtime, maintain Ventura's strong reputation and keep customers at the heart of our operation.

Qualifications

• Strong Excel skills (intermediate)

• Ability to learn new software quickly
• Experience preparing quotes

Responsibilities

• Supervise trades staff to optimise labour use.
• Prepare estimates and quotes for internal and external customers.

• Review repair orders, job codes, and workshop documentation.
• Monitor overtime and improve workshop efficiency.

As the Bodyshop Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the Regional Workshop Manager to deliver high standards of workmanship, customer service, and operational efficiency. You'll oversee day-to-day bodyshop activities, ensuring trades repairers, apprentices, and trade assistants are well-supported, productive, and working safely.

Your leadership will help minimise vehicle downtime, maintain Ventura's strong reputation, and ensure our customers remain at the heart of everything we do.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

Bodyshop Operations & Efficiency

• Supervise and coordinate trades staff to ensure efficient use of labour.
• Prepare estimates and quotes for internal and external customers.
• Ensure all work meets quality standards, timeframes, and customer expectations.
• Review and sign off repair orders, job codes, and workshop documentation.
• Monitor overtime and assist in developing procedures to improve workshop efficiency.
• Ensure parts are ordered, stocked, and recorded accurately.

Quality & Safety

• Oversee vehicle inspections and communicate findings to the Regional Workshop Manager or Operations department.
• Ensure bodyshop equipment is safe and fit for purpose.
• Identify hazards, record incidents/near misses, and promote a strong safety culture.
• Ensure PPE is worn and safety procedures are followed at all times.

Leadership & People Development

• Plan and balance workloads across the bodyshop team.
• Allocate jobs based on skill levels and operational needs.
• Support training, upskilling, coaching, and mentoring of technicians, apprentices, and trade assistants.
• Step into the Acting Operations Manager role when required.

Technical & System Skills

• Competent in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level
• Strong understanding of vehicle bodyshop and repairs as well as practical aptitude
• Quick to learn and adapt to new software systems
• Ability to prepare accurate and timely quotes

• Confident in supervising and supporting staff
• Able to balance responsibilities between the workshop floor and administrative tasks
• Skilled at prioritising workload to meet daily operational demands
• Effective problem-solver with sound decision making abilities
