Job summary

Australian Skilled Migration is seeking a diligent trades professional to prepare and coat surfaces in accordance with project specs. You will blast, clean, and inspect metal surfaces, select and apply paints and finishes, and ensure quality and safety compliance across worksites.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, following WHS procedures, and keeping workspaces organized as tasks progress on site in Melbourne. Prior experience with coatings and protective systems is valuable.

Qualifications

• Experience with abrasive blasting and surface preparation.
• Ability to apply coatings according to specifications and manufacturer requirements.
• Adherence to WHS procedures when working with abrasives, paints, and chemicals.
• Maintain clean and organised work areas and proper storage of tools and materials.

Job description

The successful candidate will need to undertake and possess:

• Prepare and clean surfaces by removing rust, old paint, scale, dirt, and other contaminants using abrasive blasting and mechanical preparation methods.
• Operate abrasive blasting equipment to prepare metal, steel structures, machinery, vehicles, containers, and other surfaces for protective coatings.
• Inspect surfaces after blasting to ensure the required level of preparation and cleanliness is achieved.
• Select, mix, and apply paints, primers, protective coatings, and finishes according to specifications and manufacturer requirements.
• Apply coatings using spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other appropriate equipment.
• Perform sanding, grinding, masking, and surface preparation between coating applications.
• Check completed work for coating thickness, coverage, colour, finish, and defects, and carry out touch-ups or corrective work as required.
• Maintain and operate blasting, spray-painting, and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, and follow WHS procedures when working with abrasive materials, paints, and chemicals.
• Maintain clean and organised work areas and properly store tools, equipment, paints, and materials.
• Complete work in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, environmental controls, and workplace safety standards.
