Job summary

BWE Drilling is seeking a motivated Trainee Blast Hole Driller to join our mining operations in Western Australia. This entry-level role offers hands-on training, supervision by experienced drillers, and exposure to blast hole drilling equipment in a remote mining setting.

You will perform pre-start checks, assist with drilling tasks and learn procedures while prioritising safety, reliability and efficient operations.

  • Safety-focused with a commitment to following procedures.
  • Able to work in a remote mining environment and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to safely operate and maintain blast hole drilling equipment.
  • Assist experienced drillers with day-to-day drilling activities.
  • Develop understanding of drilling processes, equipment and procedures.
  • Carry out pre-start inspections and basic equipment checks.
  • Assist with routine servicing and maintenance of drilling equipment.
  • Follow site safety procedures and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area.
  • Progressively develop skills to operate as a Blast Hole Driller.

BWE Drilling - Exploration

Our Exploration division is an established drilling contractor supporting exploration and mining programs with Air Core, Reverse Circulation and Diamond Drilling services. The team works across diverse greenfield and brownfield projects in Australia.

Our Waterwell division specialises in water bore drilling and well services, operating across local government and Tier 1 mining clients in Australia. Projects range from mine‑site water supply to deep artesian bore drilling.

Job Description
What You'll Be Doing

As a Trainee Blast Hole Driller, you will:

  • Learn to safely operate and maintain blast hole drilling equipment
  • Assist experienced drillers with day-to-day drilling activities
  • Develop an understanding of drilling processes, equipment and procedures
  • Carry out pre-start inspections and basic equipment checks
  • Assist with routine servicing and maintenance of drilling equipment
  • Follow site safety procedures and environmental requirements
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area
  • Work as part of a professional and safety-focused mining team
  • Progressively develop the skills and competencies required to operate as a Blast Hole Driller

  • Physically capable of performing the requirements of the role
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Committed to building a long-term career in drilling and mining
  • Current or ability to obtain a National Police Clearance
  • Previous mining experience
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to successfully complete BWE Drilling's pre-employment requirements
  • Previous drilling experience, including off-siding
  • HR licence
  • Experience working with heavy machinery or mobile plant
