Job summary

NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development seeks a Biosecurity Officer to support pest animal management and biosecurity programs in the Central West region. You will work in the field, provide practical advice to landholders, and help ensure compliance with national biosecurity standards.

You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, assist emergency response efforts, and maintain accurate records to support program evaluation and regional biosecurity outcomes.

About The Role

As a Biosecurity Officer with the Central West LLS team, you'll play a key role in supporting landholders to manage pest animals and Biosecurity in the region. You'll work on field activities, provide advice on pest animal management, and compliance with regulations, helping protect the agricultural landscape and natural ecosystems. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, support emergency response efforts, and ensure programs meet national biosecurity standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field and regulatory activities for pest and disease management

• Engage with customers and stakeholders on biosecurity initiatives
• Support surveillance, investigation, and emergency response efforts

About You

• Enjoys working with people and building strong relationships across rural communities
• Can confidently provide advice, support and practical solutions to customers and stakeholders
• Is organised, adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Works well both independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Has strong attention to detail and can maintain accurate records and reports
• Is eager to learn and develop technical knowledge in biosecurity and pest management
• Enjoys a hands-on role that combines field work, customer engagement and regulatory activities.

Ideally you’ll have some of the following, or be willing to obtain;

• Biosecurity Officer accreditation, including a Certificate IV in Government Investigations
• Authorised Officer status under the Biosecurity Act
• Appropriate pesticide application qualifications
• A NSW Firearms Licence and relevant firearm training
• A current NSW Class C Driver Licence and a willingness to travel as required.
