Job summary

Central Tablelands Local Land Services is looking for a Biosecurity Officer to undertake field and regulatory activities which support programs and advisory services for the management of animal and plant biosecurity for the region. You'll wear many hats, ensuring compliance with biosecurity regulations and supporting landholders.

As a Biosecurity Officer you will travel around the region to advise land managers on pest animal management, assist with pesticide distribution, and support program

Qualifications

  • A general understanding of animal health, land management and plant and animal pests and diseases.
  • Current NSW Class C Driver License and willingness/ability to travel (incl. overnight stays).
  • Understanding of pest animal issues and advising on integrated control programs.
  • Ability to hold and maintain Authorised Officer status under Biosecurity Act 2015.
  • Appropriate pesticide application qualifications (minimum AQF3 level).

Responsibilities

  • Advising land managers on best practice pest animal management strategies through individual one on one consultations and group extension.
  • Assist in the distribution of vertebrate pesticides such as 1080 baits with regional travel.
  • Contribute to program delivery and advisory services, ensuring alignment with LLS and regional plans.
  • Support the enforcement of biosecurity legislation, conducting surveillance and investigations as needed.
  • Build relationships with landholders and stakeholders, provide guidance, and assist with emergency preparedness and post-response recovery.

Central Tablelands Local Land Services is looking for a Biosecurity Officer to undertake field and regulatory activities which support programs and advisory services for the management of animal and plant biosecurity for the region. You'll wear many hats, ensuring compliance with biosecurity regulations and supporting landholders.


About the Role

As a Biosecurity Officer with Local Land Services, you will be responsible for:



  • Advising land managers on best practice pest animal management strategies through individual one on one consultations and group extension.

  • Assist in the distribution of vertebrate pesticides such as 1080 baits. Regular travel around the region to meet this requirement, in response to local community needs.

  • Contribute to program delivery and advisory services, ensuring alignment with LLS and regional strategic plans.

  • Support the enforcement of biosecurity legislation, conducting surveillance and investigations as needed. Your vigilance ensures biosecurity risks are mitigated.

  • Build strong relationships with landholders and stakeholders. Provide them with guidance, support emergency preparedness, and assist with post-response recovery programs.




About You

This role requires an adaptable individual who thrives under pressure. You'll need excellent communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and a strong commitment to biosecurity best practices.


Ideally, you’ll have some or all the following now, however if not you’ll need to have the ability and willingness to obtain these as part of your employment in the role:



  • A general understanding of animal health, land management and plant and animal pests and diseases.

  • A current NSW Class C Driver License as well as the ability and willingness to travel (including overnight stays) as required.

  • An understanding of pest animal issues and advising stakeholder groups on integrated and coordinated control programs

  • The ability to hold and maintain Authorised Control Officer status under Biosecurity Act2015

  • Appropriate pesticide application qualifications (minimum AQF3 level)


Whilst you don’t need to know everything required for the role now, you will need to be able to quickly develop and maintain a working knowledge of the legislative and regulatory requirements related to Biosecurity Act 2015 in NSW. Assisting the Senior Biosecurity Officer with administration, project planning and preparing paperwork associated with the role of an Authorised Officer is also part of the role.

Local Land Services builds the capacity of land manager groups to undertake pest animal management, including by providing advice and education on land manager obligations under the Biosecurity Act 2015 (NSW) and Local Land Services Act 2013. Our Biosecurity Officers are provided extensive training to become experts in this field.
