Job summary

Wannon Water in Warrnambool is seeking a passionate Biodiversity Officer to protect and enhance the natural environment across our region. You will apply your expertise and collaborative approach to care for lands and waterways that support our communities.

The role is based in Warrnambool on a full-time basis with a salary of AUD 94,275 to AUD 102,499 per year plus superannuation. A focus on biodiversity, environmental management and training will be essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Farm or Natural Resource Management or related disciplines.
• Knowledge of environmental water, wetlands, waterways and natural resource management.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication and time management.
• Commitment to safety, accountability and high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver biodiversity and environmental management programs (land management, fire management and monitoring).
• Collaborate with employees, Traditional Owner groups, partners, agencies and communities to promote best practice environmental management.
• Provide specialist advice on biodiversity and regulatory requirements and support managers and staff through training and guidance.
• Manage environmental consultants and contractors and coordinate monitoring programs of bore, recycled water sites and ocean outfalls.
• Build external relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration and funding and report on outcomes.

Who we are looking for

We're looking for a passionate environmental professional to help protect and enhance the natural environment across our region. As our Biodiversity Officer, you'll use your expertise, practical approach and strong collaboration skills to help care for the lands and waterways that support our communities.

This is an ongoing full-time position based in Warrnambool with a generous salary of $94,275 to $102,499 p.a. plus superannuation.

What you'll be doing

On a day-to-day basis, you'll:

• Develop and deliver ourbiodiversity and environmental management programs, including land management, fire management and environmental monitoring activities.
• Work collaboratively with employees, Traditional Owner groups, regional partners, government agencies, industry and communities to promote best practice environmental management.
• Provide specialist advice on biodiversity, environmental management, regulatory requirements and environmental approvals, and support managers and employees through training and guidance.
• Manage environmental consultants and contractors, and coordinate the monitoring programs of our bore, recycled water sites and ocean outfalls.
• Build strong external relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and funding, while reporting on environmental outcomes and progress.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Farm or Natural Resource Management or other related disciplines.
• A genuine interest in environmental water, wetlands, waterways and natural resource management with demonstrated working knowledge of natural resource management and biodiversity issues.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively.
• Strong verbal and written communication and excellent time management.
• A commitment to safety, accountability and high-quality outcomes for our people, our customers and the environment.
