Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, occupational therapy, disability studies, or related discipline with eligibility for membership/registration.
  • Proven capability in behaviour assessment and intervention including FBA and POS plans, with outcome monitoring.
  • Experience with children, young people and/or adults with disability or complex needs under NDIS or similar.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to train and coach staff and engage with families and teams.
  • Excellent professional writing skills for case notes, reports, and documentation meeting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct functional behaviour assessments and develop BSPs.
  • Implement BSPs and monitor outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
  • Provide training and coaching to support staff and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and ensure compliance with legislation and funding rules.
  • Participate in case reviews, team meetings and ongoing professional development.

Role Description

The Behaviour Support Practitioner is a full-time role based in Darwin, NT, with a hybrid work arrangement that allows some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting functional behaviour assessments, developing and implementing positive behaviour support plans, and working collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, and support teams. The practitioner provides training and coaching to support staff and stakeholders to ensure consistent, person-centered strategies that promote quality of life and reduce restrictive practices. The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation, preparing reports, and ensuring all practices comply with relevant legislation, clinical standards, and funding requirements. The practitioner participates in case reviews, team meetings, and ongoing professional development to support evidence-informed service delivery.

Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, occupational therapy, disability studies, or a related discipline, with eligibility for membership or registration with a professional body where applicable.
  • Demonstrated capability in behaviour assessment and intervention, including functional behaviour analysis, development of positive behaviour support plans, and monitoring outcomes.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and/or adults with disability, neurodivergence, or complex support needs, ideally within NDIS or similar frameworks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage respectfully with individuals, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams, and to deliver training or coaching.
  • High level of professional writing skills, including case notes, reports, and behaviour support documentation that meet clinical, legal, and organisational standards.
  • Sound understanding of relevant legislation, human rights principles, restrictive practice guidelines, and person-centered, trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage a caseload, prioritize competing demands, and use clinical judgment in complex situations.
  • Confident with technology, including case management systems, telehealth platforms, and standard office software; comfortable working in a hybrid onsite/remote environment.
  • Current driver’s license, ability to travel locally for client visits, and any required clearances (e.g., Working With Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening) or willingness to obtain them.
