Job summary

Visy Glass in Adelaide (West Croydon) is seeking a permanent full-time Batch & Furnace Operator (Shift Relief) to cover a rotating day, afternoon and night roster in the Batch & Furnace Department.

You will monitor furnace parameters, ensure quality batches, perform product quality checks, operate forklifts and assist with maintenance, with a structured pay progression from $36.34 to $49.53 per hour and opportunities for overtime.

Qualifications

• At least 12 months experience in Manufacturing/industrial environments.
• Experience in Batch & Furnace operations is highly regarded.
• Current Forklift Licence is advantageous.
• HR licence or Front-End Loader experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Ensure raw material and cullet batches meet quality standards.
• Inspect finished product and perform quality control testing.
• Monitor and control furnace parameters (temperature, pressure, glass level).
• Respond to plant alarms to maintain safe, efficient operations.
• Identify and report maintenance needs; assist with maintenance activities.

The opportunity:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Batch & Furnace Operator (Shift Relief) to join our manufacturing team at our Adelaide Plant in West Croydon.

This role offers a structured competency-based pay progression:

• $36.34 per hour (approximately $84K per annum inclusive of shift penalties) plus overtime opportunities and superannuation during the first 12 months.
• $45.17 per hour (approximately $104K per annum inclusive of shift penalties) plus overtime opportunities and superannuation after 12 months.
• $49.53 per hour (approximately $115K per annum inclusive of shift penalties) plus overtime opportunities and superannuation upon successful completion of all required competencies.

As a Shift Relief Operator, you will provide leave coverage across both a standard day shift roster and a 3-on, 2-off continuous rotating roster consisting of day, afternoon and night shifts within the Batch & Furnace Department.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Ensuring raw material and recycled glass (cullet) batches meet required quality standards.
• Inspect finished product and undertaking product quality control testing.
• Monitoring and controlling furnace parameters including temperature, pressure and glass level.
• Monitoring and responding to plant and production system alarms to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Identifying, reporting and assisting with equipment maintenance requirements.
• Assisting with mechanical maintenance activities and equipment calibrations.
• Operating forklifts, front-end loaders and tipper trucks to load and unload raw materials.
• Completing accurate written and electronic operational records.
• Providing relief coverage for Shift Operators as required.
• Maintaining a strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental standards.

What you will bring to the team:

You will have at least 12 months experience within a manufacturing, process or industrial environment and be able to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude. Experience in Batch & Furnace operations will be highly regarded.

The following licences and experience are advantageous:

• Current Forklift Licence.
• Front-End Loader experience and/or licence.
• Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence.
• Trade qualification or trade-based background.
