Job summary

Shangri-La Sydney is seeking a Bar Back for Blu Bar on 36, a premium harbour-facing venue within a luxury hotel.

You will support the bar team, assist with setup, garnishes, stock, cleanliness and service standards while developing cocktail knowledge and enjoying a dynamic, guest-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Previous hospitality or customer-facing experience is desirable.
• A genuine passion for hospitality and guest experiences.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and presentation.
• Willingness to learn about cocktails and luxury bar service.

Responsibilities

• Support the bar team in delivering fast, efficient and professional service, while anticipating and responding to guest needs.
• Assist with bar opening and closing procedures, service prep, equipment setup, and stock levels including garnishes and purees.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation across the bar and work areas in line with HACCP and SFSMS.
• Ensure glassware, equipment and service areas are maintained throughout service, reporting any issues to the Supervisor.
• Assist with stock management, bar requisitions, inter-bar transfers and beverage cost controls.
• Develop cocktail knowledge and participate in training and cocktail classes when required.
• Follow hotel policies, Liquor Act requirements, service standards, health and safety procedures, and assist with POS and other duties as required by management.

About the Role

As a Bar Back at Blu Bar on 36, you will play a vital role in supporting the bar team and ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of exceptional service. This role is ideal for someone who is energetic, organised and passionate about hospitality, with a strong eye for detail and a genuine desire to develop their knowledge of food and beverage.

Working closely with the Bar Attendants, Supervisors and Bar Management, you will help maintain the highest standards of service, cleanliness, presentation and operational efficiency throughout each shift.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Support the bar team in delivering fast, efficient and professional service, while anticipating and responding to guest needs.
• Assist with bar opening and closing procedures, service preparation, equipment setup, and maintaining stock levels including garnishes and purees.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation across the bar, wash-up and work areas in accordance with HACCP and SFSMS requirements.
• Ensure glassware, equipment and service areas are maintained throughout service, reporting any damage, breakages, spillages or equipment requirements to the Supervisor.
• Assist with stock management, bar requisitions, inter-bar transfers and beverage cost controls, ensuring responsible use of products and equipment.
• Develop strong food, beverage and cocktail knowledge, support cocktail service and participate in training and cocktail classes when required.
• Follow all hotel policies, Liquor Act requirements, service standards, health and safety procedures, and assist with POS, cashiering and other duties as required by management.

• Glassware, equipment, garnishes, stock and service areas are consistently prepared and readily available.

• Stock, equipment and beverage products are managed responsibly and accurately.
• The bar environment remains organised, clean and well presented, even during busy periods.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in hospitality, bars, restaurants or customer-facing service roles is desirable.
