Job summary

Australian Military Bank is seeking a Banking Operations Officer in Sydney to support day-to-day banking operations, ensure accurate processing of payments, and maintain member accounts across branches.

You’ll work across payments processing, account administration, collections and operational reporting, contributing to process improvements and delivering timely support to members and branches.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role in banking or financial services.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholders.
• Strong problem solving and proactive improvement mindset.
• Experience in banking operations, payments processing or reconciliations is valued.

Responsibilities

• Payments and transactions: Process and investigate payments, including Direct Entry, BPAY, NPP and SWIFT, plus card disputes and chargebacks.
• Account administration: Support member account maintenance, term deposits and banking accounts.
• Collections and deceased estates: Assist with collections and deceased estate administration per policy.
• Operational controls: Complete reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and ensure timely processing.
• Member and stakeholder support: Respond to enquiries from branches, members and internal teams.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve processes and support system projects.

What you'll be doing

As a Banking Operations Officer, your responsibilities will include:

• Payments and transactions: Process and investigate payments, including Direct Entry, BPAY, NPP and SWIFT transactions, as well as card disputes and chargebacks.
• Account administration: Support member account maintenance, term deposits, business banking accounts and other banking transactions.
• Collections and deceased estates: Assist with collections activities, overdue accounts and deceased estate administration in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
• Operational controls: Complete reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and ensure transactions are processed accurately and within required timeframes.
• Member and stakeholder support: Respond to enquiries from branches, members and internal teams, helping resolve issues and deliver positive member experiences.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency and support operational projects and system improvements.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast paced environment, takes pride in their accuracy and is comfortable managing a variety of tasks.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably within banking or financial services.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with different stakeholders.
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve issues.
• A proactive approach to teamwork, customer service and continuous improvement.
• An advanced diploma or degree in a related discipline, or equivalent qualifications.

Experience in banking operations, payments processing, account administration or reconciliations will be highly regarded.
