Job summary

Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) in Preston is seeking a Bail and Remand Support Coordinator to provide intensive, short‑term assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults on bail, helping them navigate immediate post‑release challenges.

You will identify practical barriers to bail compliance, coordinate referrals to Aboriginal‑led and mainstream services, and maintain case notes while supporting transitions to longer‑term local supports.

Qualifications

• Experience in case work or client support within justice or community services.
• Experience engaging respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities.
• Knowledge of bail/remand processes within the Victorian justice system.

Responsibilities

• Identify barriers to bail compliance and provide immediate support after release.
• Coordinate referrals to Aboriginal-led and mainstream services.
• Undertake housing advocacy and brokerage coordination.
• Maintain regular contact with clients during the early bail period.
• Liaise with lawyers, courts and other justice stakeholders regarding compliance matters.
• Maintain accurate case notes and contribute to program data and reporting.
• Support clients to transition to longer-term local services once stabilised.
