Job summary

CNFiTech Engineering designs, builds, tests, commissions and supports PLC and SCADA systems for utilities, industry, and government clients in Sydney. The role requires regular site attendance, including commissioning, inspections and performance assessments to meet project needs.

You will design and program PLC/SCADA systems, manage automation projects from design through handover, develop control system specs and documentation, and work with engineers, contractors and clients to ensure safety,

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, testing, and commissioning PLC/SCADA on industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of Siemens S7 platforms (Step 7, TIA Portal).
• Experience configuring Schneider Electric M580 PLC platforms.
• Experience with ClearSCADA / GeoSCADA systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Bachelor's degree recognised by Engineers Australia in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, test, commission, and support PLC and SCADA systems.
• Manage automation projects from design through to commissioning and handover.
• Develop control system designs, specifications, requirements, and documentation.
• Analyse plant performance to identify improvements in reliability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, process engineers, contractors, and clients.
• Plan and coordinate FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning, and site activities.
• Define equipment, instrumentation, network, and control system requirements.
• Ensure systems meet engineering, safety, quality, and client standards.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and performance reviews.
• Support maintenance, upgrades, modifications, asset lifecycle management, and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical leadership and support project delivery from concept through to operation.
• Prepare operations, maintenance, testing, commissioning, and handover documentation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our growing team and experience in Sydney water industry will be highly regarded. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in PLC and SCADA systems working on industrial and infrastructure projects, excellent interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.

This role will require regular site attendance, including commissioning activities, stakeholder engagement, inspections, and system performance assessments to meet client and project requirements.

About You

Experience designing, building, testing, and commissioning PLC and SCADA systems on industrial and utility projects, together with strong technical and project delivery capabilities, with:

• Demonstrated experience with Siemens S7 platforms, including Step 7 and TIA Portal.
• Experience configuring Schneider Electric M580 PLC platforms.
• Experience with ClearSCADA / GeoSCADA systems.
• Sound understanding of industrial electrical systems and the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Bachelor's degree recognised by Engineers Australia in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.

Highly Regarded

• Experience delivering PLC and SCADA solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Familiarity with Sydney Water automation standards, CASE tools, and project delivery frameworks.
• Experience supporting asset optimisation, operational performance improvements, and lifecycle management of industrial automation systems.
• Exposure to plant design, process control systems, industrial communications networks, and infrastructure projects.
