Job summary

Simplot Australia Pty Ltd seeks a Control Systems Programmer for our Devonport vegetable processing facility in North West Tasmania. You will join the Engineering team to maintain and enhance automation systems, ensuring reliable operation of manufacturing processes and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

You will work on PLC/SCADA/HMI development, troubleshoot faults, and support project delivery while collaborating with Engineering, Production and Maintenance teams to improve equipment

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Control Systems Engineering or Certificate IV trade qualifications with extensive automation and programming experience.
• Demonstrated experience in industrial automation, process control or control systems programming.
• Experience with PLC/SCADA platforms, VSDs/Servos, ideally Allen Bradley/Rockwell and ABB robots.
• Proficient with Ignition SCADA Vision and Perspective platforms using high‑performance HMIs.
• Programming ability in Python and SQL.
• Competent Electrical CAD skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and optimise PLC, SCADA and HMI systems across the site.
• Diagnose and resolve control system faults to minimise downtime and improve plant performance.
• Support the implementation and commissioning of automation and control system projects.
• Identify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities through automation and process optimisation.
• Work with Engineering, Production and Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Maintain control system documentation, backups and change management processes.
• Provide technical support and guidance to site personnel on automation and control systems.
• Participate in capital projects and system upgrades, ensuring compliance with standards.
• Support safe work practices and continuous improvement across the business.
