Job summary

Talent is seeking an experienced API Automation Test Engineer to join a major enterprise initiative in Brisbane. You will design and implement scalable API testing frameworks using Java, Rest Assured, and TypeScript, and you’ll work with Kafka, OpenAPI validation, and AI-assisted tooling to boost efficiency.

You’ll integrate tests into CI/CD, develop performance tests with k6/JMeter, and help shape reusable automation capabilities across modern mobile and web applications.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on API automation testing with Java and Rest Assured.
• Experience with TypeScript-based API testing tools.
• Proven ability to design reusable automation frameworks.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI, contract testing and schema validation.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted coding tools is a plus.

Are you an experienced API Automation Test Engineer with strong Java, Rest Assured and TypeScript skills?

We have an exciting opportunity to join a major enterprise organisation working on a Native App Foundations initiative, building scalable API testing capabilities to support modern mobile applications.

This is a hands‑on engineering role where you’ll develop robust automation frameworks, work with event‑driven architectures and leverage AI‑assisted development tools to improve testing efficiency and quality.

The Opportunity

You’ll play a key role in developing and enhancing automated API testing capabilities across a complex enterprise environment, ensuring APIs are reliable, scalable and ready to support customer‑facing applications.

Working closely with software engineers, quality engineers and DevOps teams, you’ll help establish reusable automation frameworks and embed testing into modern CI/CD pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain API automation frameworks using Java, Rest Assured and TypeScript.
• Build automated functional, regression, integration and end‑to‑end API tests.
• Develop API contract tests, including OpenAPI validation, schema compliance and backwards compatibility.
• Automate Kafka event‑driven testing, including message publishing, consumption and validation.
• Implement service virtualisation and API mocking using WireMock or similar tools.
• Develop and execute performance tests using k6 and JMeter, analysing results through Grafana dashboards.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, implementing quality gates and reporting.
• Leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate test development, scenario generation and troubleshooting.
• Create reusable testing utilities, test data builders and automation scripts.

Skills & Experience

We’re looking for an experienced API Automation Engineer with strong hands‑on technical capabilities across:

• Java & Rest Assured – Strong experience developing automated API tests and reusable frameworks.
• TypeScript & Playwright – Practical experience with TypeScript‑based API testing tools.
• Kafka – Experience testing asynchronous messaging, event‑driven integrations and service resilience.
• API Contract Testing – OpenAPI, schema validation and backwards‑compatibility testing.
• Performance Testing – Hands‑on experience with k6 and/or JMeter.
• CI/CD & DevOps – Experience integrating automated testing into delivery pipelines.
• BDD & Mocking – Exposure to Cucumber, Gherkin, WireMock or equivalent technologies.
• AI-Assisted Engineering – Practical experience using AI coding assistants to improve test automation and engineering productivity.

Experience creating reusable AI workflows, prompts or scripts for automated testing will be highly regarded.
