Job summary

Hastings Deering in Mackay QLD is seeking an experienced Auto Electrician to diagnose, repair, maintain and commission Caterpillar machinery and equipment, delivering exceptional service and quality workmanship. This is a permanent, Monday to Friday role.

You will work with electrical diagnostics, fault finding, and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, collaborating with trades and support teams to maximise equipment uptime and productivity. Safety and accuracy are essential in all tasks.

Qualifications

• Industry experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, mining, construction, or agriculture.
• Strong ability to interpret electrical schematics and use diagnostic tools.
• Commitment to workplace safety and proactive risk management.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality repairs – electrical diagnostics, maintenance and repairs to high standard.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults across Caterpillar machinery and systems.
• Work safely and follow WHS processes and environmental procedures.
• Utilise Caterpillar service information, schematics and diagnostic tools.
• Ensure work is documented accurately and meets quality expectations.
• Provide technical expertise to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
• Collaborate with tradespeople, supervisors and support teams.

We’re looking for an experience Auto Electrician to join our team in Mackay QLD. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning a variety of Caterpillar machinery and equipment while delivering exceptional service and quality workmanship. This is a permanent, Monday to Friday role.

• Deliver quality repairs – perform electrical diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs to the highest standard, ensuring equipment reliability and performance.
• Troubleshoot with confidence – identify and rectify electrical faults across a wide range of Caterpillar machinery and systems.
• Work safely every day – follow all workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures while maintaining a safe work environment.
• Use the best information – research and utilise current Caterpillar service information, schematics, and diagnostic tools to complete repairs efficiently.
• Maintain high standards – ensure all work is completed accurately, documented correctly, and meets quality expectations.
• Support customer outcomes – provide technical expertise and solutions that minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
• Work collaboratively – partner with fellow tradespeople, supervisors, and support teams to achieve operational objectives.

What you’ll need:

• Industry experience – experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, mobile plant, mining, construction, or agricultural machinery is highly regarded.
• Strong technical skills – ability to interpret electrical schematics, fault-find, and utilise diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Safety focused – demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety with a proactive approach to risk management.
• Team player – ability to work collaboratively while also taking ownership of individual tasks and responsibilities.
• Attention to detail – pride in delivering quality workmanship and getting the job done right the first time.
• Current driver's licence – a valid driver's licence is required; additional licences and tickets will be highly regarded.
