Job summary

Toowoomba Transit Pty Ltd is seeking a Workshop trades-qualified auto electrician to join our maintenance team in Toowoomba. You will support the workshop manager to maximise reliability, safety and availability of the bus fleet, using your specialist auto-electric skills.

The role involves repairing electrical and auxiliary systems, including CCTV and two‑way radios, and ensuring work adheres to manufacturer specs and vehicle standards. A valid MR/HR licence is required.

Qualifications

• AQF Certificate III or IV with at least 2 years of on‑the‑job training.
• Experience in fleet maintenance programs.
• Hold a valid MR/HR licence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of electrical and auxiliary systems fitted to the bus fleet, including CCTV, two‑way radios and door systems.
• Repair and maintain electrical systems using test equipment to locate faults; dismantle and install components and accessories.
• Carry out repairs per Manufacturer specifications, NHVIM and vehicle standards.
• Fault finding, diagnosis and general repairs.
• Ensure accurate entry to the workshop database.

About the role

To assist the Workshop Manager in maximising the reliability, safety, efficiency and availability of the bus fleet. Provide technical skills in the field of auto-electrics to support the repair and maintenance of the bus fleet.

Primary duties and responsibilities

• Maintain a high level of knowledge of electrical and axillary systems fitted to the bus fleet including CCTV systems, two-way radios and door systems;
• Repair and maintain electrical and auxiliary systems fitted to the bus fleet using test equipment to locate electrical and electronic malfunctions; dismantling and removing electrical and electronic assemblies and components; installing electrical equipment and electronic components in buses; connecting power-operated vehicle equipment and accessories to power supply; adjusting engine control systems and timing testing and replacing defective alternators, generators, voltage regulators and starter motors; repairing and replacing faulty ignition and electrical wiring; replacing defective parts such as fuses, lamps and switches;
• Carry out repairs and maintenance as per the Manufacturer's specifications, National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual and any applicable legislation or vehicle standards;
• Fault finding, diagnosis and general repairs;
• Ensuring accurate and up to date entry to the workshop database.

Skills and experience

• Minimum of AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).
• Experience in fleet maintenance programs;
• Ability to work independently and or as part of a team;
• Problem solving skills, strategic thinker, attention to detail;
• Ability to work shift work;
• Hold a valid MR/HR licence
