Job summary

CDC Canberra is offering a full-time Heavy Vehicle Auto-Electrical Apprentice position at the Queanbeyan Depot. You will learn the trade while working on a large fleet of modern buses, under the guidance of experienced auto electricians.

During the apprenticeship you will gain hands-on experience in electrical servicing, diagnostics, fault finding and repairs, while completing a nationally recognised apprenticeship and following safe work practices.

Qualifications

• Interest in auto-electrics, heavy vehicles or mechanical trades.
• Completed Year 10 or higher; pre-apprenticeship helpful but not essential.
• Reliable, practical with a good work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Assist with electrical servicing and maintenance of buses and heavy vehicles.
• Support routine, scheduled and breakdown repairs.
• Help with diagnostic testing and fault finding using computer-based systems.
• Record work performed and complete job cards under supervision.
• Maintain safety and follow workplace policies and procedures.

CDC Canberra are seeking a motivated Heavy Vehicle Auto‑Electrical Apprentice to join our busy workshop at our Queanbeyan Depot learning the trade while working on a large fleet of modern buses.

About the Role

Working under the guidance of the experienced Workshop Team, you will receive hands‑on training while completing a nationally recognised apprenticeship.

During your apprenticeship, you will gain hands‑on experience in:

Electrical servicing and maintenance of buses and heavy vehicles

Assisting with routine, scheduled and breakdown repairs

Diagnostic testing and fault finding using computer‑based systems

Troubleshooting electrical defects reported by drivers

Repair and replacement of electrical components and systems

Completing job cards and recording work performed under supervision

Working safely in a heavy vehicle workshop environment

Understanding workplace safety, quality and environmental standards

About You

We are looking for someone who is reliable, practical and eager to learn. Ideally, you will have:

A genuine interest in auto‑electrics, heavy vehicles or mechanical trades

Completed Year 10 or higher (pre‑apprenticeship studies advantageous but not essential)

A positive attitude and strong work ethic

Willingness to follow instructions and learn from others

Good attention to detail and problem‑solving skills

Ability to work well in a team and take direction

A current driver’s licence and reliable transport

Commitment to WHS and following policies and procedures

Present to work fit for duty and committed to safe work practices
