Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal is seeking a Director/Senior Director to lead Operational Risk Management and Enterprise Risk Management initiatives in Australia. You will design integrated risk frameworks, guide board and executive risk discussions, and oversee control programs, testing and remediation with a hands-on, client-focused approach.

The role emphasizes risk governance, operational resilience, and leadership of teams across complex engagements, with travel as required within Australia and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, finance, risk management, engineering or related major.
• 10+ years of proven experience across operational and enterprise risk management in first/second line, internal audit, or consulting.
• Track record of owning enterprise-wide risk frameworks end to end—taxonomy, registers, appetite, KRIs, control libraries and board reporting.
• Deep experience of operational risk disciplines—RCSA, control design, loss/event data, scenario analysis and remediation.
• Experience advising on operational resilience, business continuity and third-party risk.
• Knowledge of ISO frameworks and regulatory expectations (ISO 31000, ISO 17776).
• Ideal candidate has consulting background, strong business acumen, and a business development track record.
• Professional ERM or ISO 31000 qualification.
• Credibility with boards, risk and audit committees, regulators, and second/third line functions.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead execution of complex ORM and ERM work fronts with expertise; identify improvement initiatives and engage with clients at all engagement phases.
• Own design and implementation of integrated risk frameworks linking enterprise risks to taxonomy, control libraries and risk registers.
• Lead and develop board and executive risk discussions, including risk appetite setting and escalation protocols.
• Provide senior oversight across risk control programs, testing, loss data, scenario analysis and remediation; ensure defensible conclusions.
• Develop and deliver Safety Culture assessments and HSE-related engagements.
• Advise on risk governance and operational resilience across the three lines of defense.
• Act as engagement quality reviewer to safeguard objectivity and standards.
• Lead meetings with clients and senior A&M leadership, including risk and audit committees.
• Mentor managers and junior colleagues; build client relationships and partnerships for growth.
