The Job Profile

The Audiobook Production Executive coordinates the production of the Simon & Schuster Australia audiobook list across all imprints, ensuring titles are delivered to a high standard, on schedule and within agreed budgets.

Working closely with Publishing, Sales, Marketing and Publicity, the role supports the continued growth of the audiobook format by developing effective production approaches, identifying promotional opportunities and providing informed advice on audiobook production and market trends.

The Job Role

The Audiobook Production Executive oversees the production process from recording through to publication. This includes developing casting approaches, booking narrators, studios and external production partners, liaising with authors and agents, monitoring schedules and costs, and ensuring appropriate quality-control standards are maintained.

The role will record and amend audiobook credits, undertake minor audio amendments, and maintain an effective network and database of narrators, studios and production partners in Australia and internationally. It will also support the development and improvement of production systems and workflows.

Working collaboratively with Sales, Marketing and Publicity, the role will identify opportunities for behind-the-scenes material, interviews, bonus content and advance listening copies. It will monitor local and international audiobook trends, contribute production advice during acquisitions discussions, assess the audiobook viability of proposed titles and identify potential audiobook-original opportunities involving new and existing authors.

The Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have relevant knowledge of audiobook, audio, media or publishing production, with an understanding of production schedules, quality requirements and the commercial considerations involved in bringing audio content to market. Experience working with authors, agents, narrators, voice artists, studios or external production partners will be highly regarded.

Highly organised and detail focused, the candidate will be able to manage multiple titles, deadlines and competing priorities while working confidently and autonomously. Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills are essential, together with sound judgement, initiative and a collaborative approach.

The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and ideally experience using Adobe Audition or similar audio-editing software. Broad literary and general knowledge, an awareness of audiobook audiences and market trends, and a genuine enthusiasm for books and audio storytelling are also important.

Simon & Schuster Australia cannot accept applications from candidates without a legal right to work in Australia or who require visa sponsorship. Right to work checks are carried out on candidates who make it to offer stage.
