Job summary

Mega Recruitment is seeking an Associate Architect in Sydney to lead project teams across complex, large-scale projects. We’re partnering with a highly regarded international architectural practice based in Sydney’s CBD to appoint an experienced Associate into a key project leadership role. This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys leading from the front, bringing a team together and driving projects towards successful outcomes.

You’ll be responsible for leading a project team made up of Graduates, Senior Designers, Architects and Package Leaders, ensuring everyone is aligned, supported and working towards the same goal.

This is a role for someone who understands how to manage people, manage delivery and keep complex projects moving.

As Associate, you’ll take a leading role across major, technically complex projects, working closely with senior leadership while taking ownership of the day-to-day success of your team and project delivery.

You’ll be expected to understand the bigger picture while still being close enough to the detail to know where issues are arising and how to resolve them.

You will also need strong Revit capability. While this is a leadership role, you must be technically confident enough to jump into the model when required, review work, resolve issues and support your team directly.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and managing project teams across multiple levels
• Mentoring Graduates, Designers and Architects
• Overseeing Package Leaders and ensuring coordination across workstreams
• Driving project delivery from design through documentation and construction
• Managing project priorities, deadlines and team workloads
• Coordinating consultants and external stakeholders
• Reviewing technical and design outputs
• Jumping into Revit when required to review, troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Identifying project risks and resolving issues as they arise
• Escalating major issues to Associate Directors and Directors when required
• Managing client relationships and project communication
• Supporting the professional development of your team
• Ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard

You’ll have senior support around you, but you’ll also be trusted to run your team and take responsibility for outcomes.

In the role as an Associate Architect we are looking for someone with:

We’re looking for an experienced Architect or Associate who has already demonstrated that they can successfully lead people and projects. You’ll ideally have around 10-15+ years of architectural experience, with strong exposure to complex, large-scale projects and a proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.

You will need:

• Strong Revit capability — essential
• Current experience operating at Associate, Senior Architect or an equivalent project leadership level
• Experience leading architectural project teams
• Experience managing Graduates, Designers, Architects and Package Leaders
• Strong technical and project delivery capability
• Experience working across complex, large-scale projects
• Confidence managing competing priorities, deadlines and resources
• The ability to identify issues early and drive practical solutions
• Confidence working with senior clients and stakeholders
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• A hands‑on approach when required
• Full Australian working rights

This is not a purely managerial position. You need to understand the technical side of project delivery and be capable of getting into Revit when required to support the team and resolve issues.

This role will suit someone who genuinely enjoys bringing the best out of a team.

You’ll be working with experienced team members, so your value will come from your ability to lead, organise, communicate, solve problems and step into the detail when required.

Applicants must currently be based in Australia and have recent, local Australian architectural experience at this level.

We are specifically looking for someone who is already working within the Australian architectural industry and is currently operating in a project leadership capacity. Due to the seniority of the role and the level of local project knowledge required, overseas applications will not be considered. Full Australian working rights are essential.
