Job summary

Optus is seeking an Associate Director of Automation Engineering to lead cross-domain automation initiatives across Network Operations and related platforms. The role focuses on scalable automation frameworks, governance, and agile delivery to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.

You will drive strategy, lead a high-performing team, and partner with technology stakeholders to advance autonomous operations and service restoration capabilities.

Qualifications

• Extensive leadership experience across telecommunications or large-scale technology environments.
• Experience leading enterprise-scale automation and orchestration capabilities.
• Strong knowledge of automation engineering, APIs, and workflow technologies.
• Understanding of operational risk, resilience, observability, security and governance for production automation.
• Ability to define capability strategy, engineering standards and roadmaps with measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own cross-domain automation strategy, roadmap and maturity journey to support transition to closed-loop and autonomous operations.
• Lead design, engineering and industrialisation of scalable automation frameworks, services, workflows and reusable engineering standards.
• Enable integration across OSS, ITSM, network and operational platforms to support automated execution.
• Establish automation governance, testing, security, auditability and operational controls for safe production deployment.
• Drive adoption and continuous optimisation of automation capabilities to reduce manual effort and improve service outcomes.
• Lead cross-functional stakeholder engagement and strategic technology partnerships to align automation priorities and investments.
• Build and develop a high-performing automation engineering team while fostering engineering excellence and accountability.
