The Savvy Squire, part of ALH Hotels, is seeking an Assistant Manager/Functions Manager to join our leadership team in a hybrid role combining functions administration and floor leadership. The position splits into three days of functions management, event sales and planning in the office, and two days leading F&B and bar operations on the venue floor.

Are you a hospitality manager who loves the strategy and detail of event management as much as the energy of running a high-volume venue floor?

About The Role

Assistant Manager | The Savvy Squire is looking for a dynamic Assistant Manager / Functions Manager to join our leadership team in a unique hybrid role that splits your expertise between functions administration and operational floor leadership! This position offers an ideal operational mix: spend 3 days per week focused on functions management, event sales, and administrative planning in the office, and 2 days per week leading from the front on the venue floor running F&B and bar operations. You’ll be the key link connecting client function sales to seamless floor execution on the Wharf.

A Day In The Life Of An Assistant Manager

• Manage function inquiries, drive event bookings, create run sheets, coordinate client menus, handle admin/billing, and plan corporate and private event logistics.
• Support the Publican to keep the pub running smoothly, safely, and with a great vibe
• Learn the ropes of being a Publican while leading a team of absolute hospo legends
• Handle hiccups before they turn into headaches
• Bring the energy, the service, and the smiles every single shift

Inherent Requirements

• This is a hands‑on role that involves manual handling and lifting as part of regular duties (e.g. moving stock, kegs, and deliveries). Applicants must have the ability to perform physical tasks safely and efficiently.

About You

• You’ve been around the bar, bistro, or gaming room block, and maybe already done some supervising
• You’ve learned from great managers and now you’re ready to step up
• You’ve got the confidence, pride, and people skills to be the face of the pub when the boss is away
• You’ve got a current RSA/RSG, RMLV and Approved Managers Licence as per state requirements
