Job summary

Union Jack Hotel in Cairns is seeking a Senior Assistant Manager to lead a fast-paced entertainment venue. You will supervise frontline teams, drive guest satisfaction and oversee operations across food & beverage, gaming and events.

Ideal candidates bring proven leadership in busy hospitality settings, strong communication, and the ability to manage large crowds during major events. RSA/RSG certs are essential; Manager's Licence preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist day-to-day venue operations and lead frontline teams.

  • Oversee F&B, gaming, entertainment and event activities.
  • Monitor safety, cleanliness and venue presentation to standard.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance reviews.
  • Manage labour costs, rosters and productivity targets.
  • Ensure RSA, gaming, liquor licensing and WHS compliance.
  • Assist with stock control, cash handling and end-of-day reporting.

Senior Assistant Manager – Entertainment Venue

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of a fast-paced, high-volume entertainment venue. This role is responsible for leading frontline teams, delivering exceptional customer experiences, driving operational excellence, and ensuring compliance across all areas of the business.

The successful candidate will have proven experience managing large customer volumes in a hospitality, entertainment, gaming, or events environment and thrive in a dynamic setting where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of venue operations.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop hospitality, gaming, and customer service teams.
  • Deliver outstanding guest experiences and resolve customer concerns professionally.
  • Ensure smooth operation of food and beverage, gaming, entertainment, and event activities.
  • Monitor venue presentation, cleanliness, and safety standards.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of staff.
  • Manage labour costs, rosters, and productivity targets.
  • Maintain compliance with RSA, RSG, gaming, liquor licensing, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Assist with stock control, cash handling, and end-of-day reporting.
Skills & Experience
  • Previous leadership experience in a high-volume entertainment venue, pub, club, casino, hotel, or hospitality environment.
  • Strong understanding of food and beverage operations, gaming, and live entertainment.
  • Proven ability to lead teams during busy trading periods and major events.
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Current RSA and RSG certificates (essential).
  • Approved Manager's Licence or ability to obtain one (preferred).
