Job summary

Custom Denning in Sydney, NSW, is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join a hands-on finance team supporting month-end, budgeting and WIP analysis. You will work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure accurate reporting and robust financial controls.

The role offers exposure to manufacturing finance, inventory, cash flow and ERP systems, with genuine career progression as the business scales its Australian EV manufacturing program.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years in a similar role ideally in manufacturing.
• CA/CPA/CIMA in progress is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with month-end and year-end reporting and reconciliations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Prepare inventory and WIP analysis and reports.
• Assist with financial analysis and reporting for management and external stakeholders.
• Support payroll processing and financial transactions (AP, invoicing).
• Assist with cash flow monitoring and payments (local and international).
• Maintain Excel models for budgeting, cash flow forecasting and payroll.
• Support ERP projects including data entry, testing and reporting.
• Assist with ad-hoc reporting and projects as required.
• Build relationships with stakeholders across the business.

This is a great next step for an assistant management accountant with a couple of years behind them who wants to build real depth in manufacturing finance — WIP, inventory and costing — working alongside an experienced team, with genuine pathways for career progression as we expand.

Your Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll play a hands-on support role across the finance function, helping keep the numbers accurate and the business informed. Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with month-end and year-end financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Helping prepare inventory and Work in Progress (WIP) analysis and reports.
• Assisting with financial analysis and reporting for management and external stakeholders.
• Supporting payroll processing and financial transactions (invoicing, Accounts Payable, trade and asset finance).
• Assisting with cash flow monitoring and processing local and international payments.
• Maintaining and updating Excel models for budgeting, cash flow forecasting and payroll.
• Supporting ERP and systems projects, including data entry, testing and reporting.
• Assisting with ad-hoc reporting, projects and analysis as required.
• Building relationships with stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications & Skills

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Working towards CA / CPA / CIMA qualification.
• 2-3 years' experience in a similar role.
• Great to have experience in manufacturing.
• Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals; exposure to Work in Progress (WIP) processes highly regarded.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Power Query skills highly regarded.
• Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O or similar ERP systems desirable.
• Basic knowledge of Power BI is a bonus, but not essential.
• Strong command of Office 365 apps (Word, Outlook, SharePoint).
• Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail, organisation and prioritisation skills.
