Job summary

Northholm Grammar School is seeking an accomplished Mathematics educator to join our team as Assistant Head of Mathematics. This role blends exemplary classroom teaching with middle leadership within a collaborative Mathematics Department.

The successful candidate will support curriculum, teaching, assessment and staff development, including NESA and HSC requirements, and will be able to teach Stage 6 Mathematics with Extension 1 and/or 2 as highly regarded.

Qualifications

• Proven track record as an exemplary Mathematics teacher with leadership potential.
• Deep knowledge of Mathematics curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and NESA/HSC requirements.
• Capacity to teach Stage 6 Mathematics; Extension 1/2 welcomed.
• Ability to analyse student learning data and drive curriculum improvement.

Responsibilities

• Support curriculum planning, teaching, assessment, moderation and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and support colleagues within the Mathematics Department.
• Coordinate programs, assessment schedules, resources and reporting as delegated by the Head of Mathematics.
• Contribute to enrichment and extension opportunities for high-achieving students in Mathematics.
• Promote high expectations for student learning and achievement.
• Contribute to pastoral and co-curricular life of the School.

We are seeking an accomplished Mathematics educator to join our team as Assistant Head of Mathematics. This is an opportunity to combine outstanding classroom teaching with middle leadership in a collaborative and academically focused department.

Working closely with the Head of Mathematics, the Assistant Head will support curriculum, teaching, assessment, staff development and student achievement across Secondary Mathematics. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with the capacity to teach Stage 6 Mathematics. The ability to teach Mathematics Extension 1 and/or Mathematics Extension 2 is highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Supporting the Head of Mathematics in providing educational and professional leadership across the Mathematics Department.
• Supporting curriculum planning, teaching, assessment, moderation and continuous improvement, including relevant NESA and HSC requirements.
• Modelling rigorous, explicit and evidence-informed Mathematics teaching and promoting high expectations for student learning and achievement.
• Supporting the use of student achievement and assessment data to identify trends, strengthen teaching and provide appropriate support and extension.
• Mentoring and supporting colleagues and contributing to a collaborative, accountable and improvement-focused Department culture.
• Assisting with the coordination of programs, assessment schedules, resources, reporting and other Department operations as delegated by the Head of Mathematics.
• Supporting enrichment and extension opportunities, including problem-solving, competitions and pathways for high-achieving Mathematics students.
• Contributing positively to the pastoral and broader co-curricular life of the School.

Applicants should possess the following:

• A strong record as an exemplary Mathematics teacher and the capacity to support and inspire colleagues.
• Deep knowledge of Mathematics curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and relevant NESA and HSC requirements.
• Demonstrated capacity to teach Stage 6 Mathematics. The ability to teach Mathematics Extension 1 and/or Mathematics Extension 2 is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated capacity to contribute to curriculum improvement, assessment design, moderation and the analysis of student learning data.
• Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing teaching and leadership priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.
• Current NESA teacher accreditation and a valid Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain and maintain these requirements.
