Job summary

Northholm Grammar is an independent K-12 co-educational school situated in a beautiful and inspiring semi-rural environment at Arcadia in the north-west of Sydney. We are seeking an engaging and accomplished HSIE Teacher to join our Secondary teaching team. This is an opportunity to inspire students through the study of history, geography and society, developing their curiosity, critical thinking and understanding of the world around them.

Key Responsibilities include:

Planning and delivering engaging, academically rigorous HSIE lessons across relevant year groups and courses.

Developing and implementing high-quality teaching programs, assessment tasks and learning resources aligned with NESA syllabus requirements.

Building students’ historical and geographical knowledge, source analysis, inquiry, research and evidence-based reasoning skills.

Using explicit teaching, differentiation and timely feedback to support and extend students with a range of learning needs.

Monitoring student progress and using assessment evidence and learning data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes.

Contributing collaboratively to curriculum planning, assessment moderation and continuous improvement within the Department.

Fulfilling a pastoral role within the School’s house-based Tutor system and fostering positive relationships with students and families.

Contributing to the School’s co-curricular program, excursions and wider School community.

Applicants should possess the following:

A strong background in teaching a broad range of HSIE and Commercial Studies subjects across stages 4-6 with the ability to deliver engaging and academically rigorous HSIE programs.

Sound knowledge of relevant NESA syllabuses, assessment and reporting requirements, including HSC requirements where applicable.

The capacity to teach one or more HSIE/Commercial Studies subjects will be highly regarded.

Demonstrated skill in explicit teaching, differentiation and using student learning data to inform classroom practice.

A collaborative approach to curriculum development, assessment design, moderation and professional learning.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.

Current NESA teacher accreditation and a valid Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain and maintain these requirements.
