Job summary

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is seeking an experienced Assistant Director Compliance and Resilience to join the Strategic Governance Team. You will lead the design, integration and continuous improvement of DHA’s compliance, policy and resilience frameworks, and act as a trusted adviser to DHA leadership and the BAR Committee.

The role requires strong judgement in complex matters and collaboration with senior stakeholders.

DHA is seeking an experienced Assistant Director Compliance and Resilience to join the Strategic Governance Team.

About us

DHA was established in 1988 following passage of the Defence Housing Australia Act 1987 (DHA Act) to provide adequate and suitable housing for, and housing related services to, members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families. We remain committed to our purpose of providing housing, and housing related services, to ADF members and their families to support Defence’s operational needs.

DHA manages an expanding portfolio of housing solutions and provides housing for over 17,200 ADF members and their families and administers rent allowance for more than 16,000 ADF members and their families in private rental accommodation. DHA provides housing related services advising on eligibility, providing posting support, and managing bookings and allocation services for all DHA provisioned housing and on-base accommodation to approximately 60,000 ADF members.

About your team

This team is responsible for strengthening DHA’s organisational resilience, fostering a culture of compliance, and ensuring effective frameworks, policies and processes are in place to support the achievement of DHA’s objectives. The team leads the development and continuous improvement of compliance management, business continuity, resilience, and policy governance arrangements, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements, better practice standards, and organisational priorities.

The work environment is dynamic, with a range of strategic and operational initiatives being undertaken concurrently to enhance DHA’s capability, preparedness, and performance. About the role

Operating with a high degree of autonomy under broad direction from the Director, Strategic Governance / Chief Risk Officer, the Assistant Director leads the design, integration and continuous improvement of DHA’s compliance, policy and resilience frameworks. The role acts as a trusted adviser to DHA leadership and the Board Audit and Risk Committee (BARC). The Assistant Director enables greater confidence in how DHA manages enterprise risks relating to compliance and resilience by building constructive relationships with senior stakeholders, exercising sound judgement in complex and sensitive matters, and ensuring assurance activities are risk-based, proportionate and aligned to DHA’s strategic objectives.
