Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day Procure-to-Pay activities including POs, invoices, approvals and payment preparation.
• Take ownership of Accounts Payable from invoice receipt to payment runs and supplier queries.
• Support procurement and purchasing activities with accurate recording and documentation.
• Assist with inventory and stock-related processes, including reporting and reconciliations.
• Complete bank, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations and prepare month-end journals.

Role Overview

This opportunity will suit an Assistant Accountant looking to step into a broader role than traditional transactional accounting. Working across the day-to-day finance function, the successful candidate will be involved in procure-to-pay activities, supplier invoices and payments, reconciliations, banking, journals, expenses and month-end processes. The role will also provide exposure to purchasing, inventory and logistics activities.

The position will play an important part in strengthening financial processes and controls within a lean business environment. Working closely with senior stakeholders, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to identify process improvements, take ownership of key activities and gain a strong understanding of how finance supports the wider operation.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day Procure-to-Pay activities, including purchase orders, invoice processing, approvals and payment preparation.
• Take ownership of Accounts Payable activities from invoice receipt through to payment runs and supplier queries.
• Support procurement and purchasing activities, ensuring transactions and supporting documentation are accurately recorded.
• Assist with inventory and stock-related processes, including reporting, reconciliation and coordination with operational teams.
• Complete bank, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and other month-end accounting adjustments.
• Provide support across Accounts Receivable, customer statements, banking and order releases.
• Assist with month-end reporting and financial analysis, including variance reviews and labour cost analysis.
• Support year-end activities, audit requirements and statutory reporting.
• Assist with financial administration, expense management and other accounting projects as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, strengthen controls and improve data accuracy.
• Work collaboratively with operational and commercial stakeholders across purchasing, supply chain and administration.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience across accounting, Accounts Payable, Procure-to-Pay, materials planning or inventory-related functions. Strong end-to-end P2P experience is highly desirable, together with demonstrated capability across reconciliations and month-end accounting. Experience within an SME, industrial or operational environment will be well regarded.

SAP experience, particularly strong exposure to the purchase order functionality, is essential. Intermediate Excel skills are also required, while experience with inventory, logistics, imports, exports or customs processes will be advantageous. Exposure to Power BI or database systems would be an additional benefit.

Beyond technical capability, the business is seeking someone who is proactive, resilient and comfortable working in an environment where priorities can change. The successful candidate will be hands-on, commercially minded and willing to take ownership rather than waiting to be directed. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across different areas of the business will be important.
