Qualifications

Artificial Intelligence Governance, Assurance and TEVV Specialist - Defence | NV1 | Canberra

Azooa is seeking an experienced Artificial Intelligence Governance, Assurance and Test, Evaluation, Verification and Validation (TEVV) Specialist to support the Australian Army’s Land Network Integration Centre in Symonston, ACT.

This senior, hands-on role will help establish and mature Army’s AI governance, assurance and TEVV capability. It suits professionals from AI, systems engineering, Test & Evaluation, verification and validation, technical assurance, risk, operational analysis or Defence technology backgrounds.

About the opportunity

The specialist will provide technical leadership and independent assurance for AI-enabled systems, supporting evidence-based and risk-informed decisions about performance, security, reliability, trustworthiness, model integrity, operational effectiveness, suitability and compliance.

You will work across Defence, ADF, APS, industry, DSTG, academia and other government stakeholders to assess AI technologies, technical evidence and vendor claims.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and review AI governance and assurance artefacts, including AI Use Cases, Model Cards, System Cards and Assurance Cases
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of Army AI governance and assurance arrangements
  • Plan, coordinate, support and oversee AI TEVV and evaluation activities
  • Assess AI-enabled systems, technical documentation, performance claims, assumptions, limitations and risks
  • Evaluate performance, security, reliability, trustworthiness, model integrity and operational suitability
  • Review AI policies, submissions, technical papers and proposals and advise Army on their implications
  • Critically assess vendor, supplier and contractor performance and capability claims
  • Identify technical, security, governance, operational, model-integrity and compliance risks
  • Recommend practical mitigation and risk-management strategies
  • Translate complex findings into clear reports, briefs, submissions and decision-support products
  • Engage and coordinate with technical, operational, governance and policy stakeholders
  • Capture lessons learned and transfer knowledge to support Army’s enduring AI capability
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, computer science, AI, data science, machine learning, systems engineering, operational analysis, mathematics, physics, statistics or another STEM discipline, or equivalent professional experience
  • At least five years’ experience developing, implementing, managing, assuring, testing, evaluating or governing AI, machine learning, data-driven or other advanced technology solutions
  • Strong understanding of AI and machine learning systems
  • Experience applying systems engineering, risk, assurance, operational analysis, experimentation, T&E or V&V methods to complex real-world problems
  • Ability to assess technical evidence, performance claims, assumptions, limitations and risks
  • Experience developing or applying governance, assurance, policy, standards, ethics, privacy, security or risk-management frameworks
  • Strong written communication and experience advising senior decision-makers
  • Ability to work across technical, governance, operational and policy functions
  • Australian citizenship and ability to meet Defence security requirements
Highly regarded
  • Defence, Defence Industry, DSTG, national security or Commonwealth Government experience
  • Generative AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation or prompt engineering
  • Autonomy, computer vision, natural language processing, predictive analytics or advanced analytics
  • Responsible AI, ethical AI, privacy, security and AI risk-management frameworks
  • MLOps, DevOps and model lifecycle management
  • Microsoft Azure AI, AWS AI/ML, Google Cloud AI or equivalent platforms
  • TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Python or similar technologies
  • Experience acting as a technical authority, assurance authority, evaluator or Independent Verification and Validation function
  • Technology trials, demonstrations, experimentation, prototyping or operational evaluation
Security and eligibility
  • Minimum current NV1 AGSVA clearance required at commencement
  • Potential requirement to upgrade to NV2 during the engagement
