Job summary

The Australian Museum is seeking an Archives Assistant to support accessibility of its archival collections as part of a project. You will help retrieve, document and digitise materials, while maintaining records and supporting collection care.

The role also involves frontline help for visitors and researchers and assisting with public programs. The ideal candidate is organised, enthusiastic and detail-focused with an interest in historical collections and a passion for making information

Qualifications

Knowledge of archival principles and description of records.
Experience handling historical records in a secure environment.
Experience with archival information management and enquiry systems.
Strong organisational and communication skills with accuracy and detail.
Tertiary qualifications in archives, records, information management, museum studies, history or related field.

Responsibilities

Assist with retrieving, documenting, organising and digitising archival materials.
Provide frontline assistance to visitors and researchers.
Respond to archival enquiries and support access to collections.
Support public programs and events connecting audiences with the Museum’s collections.
Maintain accurate records and support best-practice collection care.
