Job description

Join us at the Australian Museum and help us to achieve our Mission to ignite wonder, inspire debate and drive change.

About the Project

The Collection Enhancement Project (CEP) is the Australian Museum's digitisation program, aiming to standardise and streamline digitisation activities across the Museum. The CEP is managed within two streams - Natural Science collections and Cultural collections - based on the specialised requirements and expertise needed to digitise such varied collection material. The focus within the Natural Science collections is to digitally register specimens to address legacy data issues, capture high resolution images, and barcode the specimens along with the relevant storage facilities. The aim of Natural Sciences CEP is to improve collection management, audit capabilities, and accessibility of the collections.

About the Role

The Collection Data Cleansing Officer supports the Collection Enhancement Project (CEP) through analysing and optimising the quality, accuracy and consistency of the Australian Museum's collection and digital asset data across its Collection Management System, EMu, and Digital Asset Management System, Fotoware. Working within the Collection Systems team and with internal stakeholders, the role assists with aligning collection metadata, preparing and remediating data for CEP activities, undertaking user acceptance testing during system installations and upgrades, and providing user support. This is an opportunity to contribute to the integrity and accessibility of information relating to the Museum's diverse natural history, archival and cultural collections.

Employment Status:
  • Fixed term up to 30 June 2027
  • Full-time

You will be paid a competitive total remuneration package of $88,529 - $94975, including an annual salary of $78,000 - $84799, plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.

About you

You are a detail-oriented and methodical professional with experience in data cleansing, data management and working with large datasets, ideally within a museum, cultural, archival or natural history collections environment. You can accurately apply data standards, identify and resolve inconsistencies, and maintain data integrity across collection systems, with experience using EMu and/or Fotoware considered an advantage. You are comfortable learning new technologies, managing competing priorities and escalating complex issues when required, while working collaboratively with colleagues and providing clear, practical support to system users

To be eligible for this role at the Australian Museum, you must hold full working rights in Australia and meet all essential requirements listed in the position description.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience and expertise in data cleansing, preferably in a museum or other collections context.

  • Experience with large datasets in a museum context, such as natural history, archival, or cultural collections.
  • Prior experience with EMu and/or Fotoware will be an advantage.
