Job summary

Redland City Council is hiring Arborist/Groundsperson (Field Officer Parks and Conservation) for the Tree Services team. Multiple permanent full-time positions with 38 hours per week and a Level 4/5 classification depending on experience and qualifications.

The role focuses on maintaining trees across parks, streetscapes and reserves, performing pruning, removal and hazardous work, and contributing to the health and safety of Redlands Coast.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Arboriculture or equivalent required for Level 5; Level 4 possible with qualification support.
• Experience in pruning, removal and vegetation maintenance.
• Strong safety mindset and knowledge of WH&S requirements.
• Proven ability to operate and maintain arboriculture equipment safely.
• Ability to work in Parks, reserves and streetscapes, with teamwork focus.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking tree maintenance across council parks and reserves.
• Carrying out pruning, removal and hazard mitigation works.
• Support urban forest maintenance and environmental care across Redlands Coast.
• Operate chainsaws, chippers and elevated work platforms safely.
• Monitor hazards and advise on appropriate control measures.
• Provide professional service to internal and external customers.
• Collaborate with team to deliver high-quality outcomes for the community.

Redland City Council is seeking motivated and skilled Arbortists to join our Tree Services team. With four exciting opportunities available, this is your chance to build a rewarding career working outdoors, making a visible difference to our community and environment every day.

As a Arborist, you'll play a key role in maintaining and caring for Council's trees across parks, streetscapes, reserves and public spaces. Working within a supportive and safety-focused team, you'll undertake a wide range of arboriculture and vegetation management activities that contribute to the health, safety and beauty of the Redlands Coast.

This position is classified atLevel 5, which requires a Certificate III in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Conservation and Ecosystem Management, or another relevant discipline.

Don’t currently hold a Certificate III? We still encourage you to apply. Suitable candidates may be considered for appointment atLevel 4, with support provided to obtain the required qualification and progress their career with Council.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking tree maintenance and vegetation management activities across Council-managed parks, reserves and streetscapes
• Delivering arboricultural works including pruning, tree removal and hazard mitigation activities
• Supporting the maintenance and enhancement of Redlands Coast's urban forest and natural environment
• Operating and maintaining chainsaws, chippers, elevated work platforms and other specialised equipment safely and effectively
• Monitoring site conditions, identifying hazards and implementing appropriate control measures
• Providing professional advice and outstanding service to internal and external customers
• Working collaboratively with team members to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes for the community

Skills and experience:

• Proven experience in delivering high-qualitytree pruning / removal and vegetation maintenance services
• Physical fitness and the ability to perform a wide range of outdoor and strenuous tasks over extended periods
• Strong knowledge of workplace health, safety, and environmental protection requirements
• Confident in the safe use, care, and maintenance of plant, tools, chainsaws, chippers, and other equipment
• Technical skills and knowledge in arboriculture or related trade services
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive workplace culture
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address hazards proactively

Level 4

• You'll have a Current Class 'C' Drivers Licence
• You'll have the physical capability to safely perform outdoor operational work which is confirmed through a pre-employment functional assessment
• You'll have availability to perform after hours work on an on-call and call-out basis
• To be eligible for employment, applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia.

Level 5 (in addition to the Level 4 criteria above)

• You will have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the relevant field
• You'll hold a qualification in either of the following:
  • TAFE Certificate III in Arboriculture
  • TAFE Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent
  • Landscape Construction including a playground Inspector – Level 2 Certificate
  • Certificate III Conservation and Land Management, Fire Management or equivalent
  • Certificate III in Sports Turf Management, or Greenkeeping Qualification
