Job summary

Brisbane City Council is seeking an Arboriculture Pruning Officer to maintain the health and appearance of our urban forest, delivering high-quality tree care using best practices. You’ll ensure safety and cost-effective outcomes for the community.

Join a supportive team to prune, removals, chemical applications and use of specialist equipment, with licences/qualifications required within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated arboriculture experience with diverse machinery and tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication to write basic reports.
• Ability to guide team direction and meet performance standards.
• Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety policies and Council Code of Conduct.

Salary Range: CSERV 5 (1,379.60 + 14% Superannuation + allowances)

(Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions)

Work type: Permanent Full-time. 9 day fortnight (7am-4pm)

The Role

We’re looking for an Arboriculture Pruning Officer to join our team and help maintain the health, safety and appearance of our urban forest.

In this role, you’ll deliver high‑quality tree maintenance using horticultural and arboriculture best practices that are safe, environmentally responsible and cost‑effective. Your work will directly support community expectations by ensuring trees are cared for, maintained and managed to a high standard.

Working closely with your Team Leader, you’ll play an active part in a supportive team environment—contributing to performance goals, exchanging feedback and helping guide daily work activities. You’ll undertake a range of arboriculture tasks including tree pruning, removals, chemical application and the safe use of specialist equipment.

You’ll also assist with supervising team members, delivering on‑the‑job training, maintaining equipment, and ensuring worksites remain safe for both staff and the public.

To be successful you will have:

• demonstrated experience in arboriculturally practices, including the use of a diverse range of machinery and tools
• sound interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to write basic reports.
• ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence
• knowledge of and the ability to apply Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures and Council’s Code of Conduct
• ability to acquire a Medium Rigid (MR) Licence within three (3) months of commencing the role
• ability to acquire Intermediate Tree Felling qualifications within three (3) months of commencing the role
• possession of a White Card
• sound knowledge and experience in operating a woodchipper machine.
• level III Certificate in Arboriculture.
• possession of an Elevated Work Platform licence (EWP)
• possession of a Medium Rigid (MR) Vehicle licence.
• possession of a Chipper Ticket.
• possession of a Dogging licence.
• possession of an Electrical awareness for non-electrical worker’s licence (M31A).
